Looking ace Chris! I'm keen to christen my Gios at HH too, so let us know when it's ready for induction

I'd be up for that on the Plum too if I get a suitable dropbar and stem in time (and small cog)

Noob group. Sounds good.

Really enjoyed watching this project develop, and your commitment to it.
Good job on the decals - I've got the cobbywobbles about aligning just a single tubing one. Might buy a protractor and new brain first. Yours went on dry right? I was going to buy mine from the same guy you did as he also has original Columbus decals but opted for another set of copies elsewhere. Bit worried they'll not measure up though, in both senses.

Count me in...
We can all turn up on stupidly nice bikes and be total novices together. -

You must have the patience of a Saint to apply those decals so perfectly! Great stuff, looking forward to seeing your finished product!.

Thanks, it was just luck to be honest...
Waiting for it to warm up a bit to apply the last coat of clear coat then I can start restoring parts for build!

Ooof! Veery tempting but I fear my steerer is too short (only just works with Record Pista at 34mm stack height.

Any pics of it built up with your bits and bobs? Silvers looks very classy. :)

Really looking forward to seeing some pictures of this. Basically my perfect bike!
You did a great job of the paint too dude by the looks of things. -
• #121
Cheers guys! It's sitting next to me atm... just need it to warm up for the final clear coat then give everything a spit and polish.
I'm planning on trying to pick up more ruined frames and get them back to their former glory as much as possible, it's really fun and makes a great break from 9am-10pm screen work... -
• #122
How much do you reckon it cost in materials and time?
-
• #123
^Never, ever, try to work out the cost of your own time when fiddling with your own machinery, that way lays insanity! Just give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done, or superbly done in this case. Have been watching the turnover of fruit with some interest, I trust you're regular!?

I'd just be interested to hear how many hours you think it's taken to do it, and the cost of the materials involved. Partly because I have that frame that wants doing too.

Well, it's a tough one... put simply it's not "worth" the time or money. I prob spent 1-2 days stripping the frame myself to save £30. I'm not sure of other industries wages but I can't imagine any being less than £30 a day, or even £15... but I really enjoyed it. Painting wise, £200 a respray sounded a lot until I did it myself, with care, it prob took me a week in total, spraying, sanding, spraying, sanding, missing bits, sanding, spraying, but again, it was really fun and a great change from desk work. I could of thrown a couple of days pay at it and had it far better than I have made it, but would it of meant as much? Prob not.
Material cost: Paint stripper- £7
Paint: 1x Prime, 3x Paint, 1X Clear coat - £35
Time: 1 week
Nope, just taped them on and rubbed with the handle of a pair of scissors, then gently peeled the last bit of paper off... now fingers crossed for the clear coat not messing them up!
