Cheers dude, that's what I was hoping to hear, it's a bit more in real life (than that pic) but I am not too worried.
Paint wise, it is SO ADDICTIVE. Need to stop at some point, but thats not final, thats sanded down, i'm trying to get a perfect new bike finish, which is insane considering all the pitting and dents, but it's just too much fun.
Proper pics once it's done, but just filled another wee chip and sanded it out, checking how it looks on it's wheels, getting excited... (top tube is heavily sanded here, forks are final - will also clean up rims for build). How'd you clean up black rims? My MA40-wheels needs a wee clean as there are some scratches on there.
And on that pic with the wheels on it almost looks like it's dented right before the seatpost lug on the top tube. Surely it must be my eyes but yeah..

It's paint thats worn off so it's just going to be a case of repainting by hand after a little sanding back.
Reg toptube: It's quite pitted and I have sanded it back some so it might be that that you are seeing, there was a bigger dent but thats been filled and I have spent today sprayign and sanding back to get perfect, there is a dent on the chainstay and the seat tube but it's too late to get them out - and they are only dings (turns out it's an ex USSR team bike - I think...). -

You're not the chap I bumped into near the Tea building are you?
Afraid not, Shoreditch is and the Tea building itself is far to Hip Hop Slave for me!
Think I might stick with Conti-Gatorzzzz then. Not 100% I like gumwalls with a silver machined rim...

With what kind of paint you reckon would work? Enamel?

Ha, I'm not even sure what Hip Hop Slave means, it doesn't sound too good though...

Yep, did it before, Humbrol like I used to use on my model aeroplanes as a kid (good old days)!

If your looking for ways to paint the clovers without masking an spraying which is painful , search golf club paint fill on YouTube and take a look
Used the same method on a few builds and it turned out nice -

Good work Chris. All that hard work has payed off, it looks amazing!

Second set, in the post allegedly, genuine NOS Colnago ones, rub on affairs, which will go under the clear coat, if they turn up, and are decent.
I bought a few sets of NOS (benotto) decals once. the glue was weakened and the decals very brittle. both from age I think.
they just fell of in small pieces. no clear coat though.I hope you will be lucky with yours and that the clear coat will keep them on.

@COOKIES - Thanks for the tip! Might try doing it like that...
@The_BMX-KId - Thanks!
@drøn - I fear the same may happen to mine, but they are going under clearcoat so fingers crossed. Here is the full build kit, can't decide on headset, Campag or Gipiemme Pista? The BB and fork dropouts are Gipiemme, everything else Record or Super Record Pista... hmmm...

You won't be going anywhere without a chain.
-
• #87
Offf! Knew I forgot something...
Hows your's coming along ey?
-
• #88
Damn, those parts look good :)! You're not done with painting yet, are you? Also, because of the paint that you're using is probably much tinner than autopaint or powdercoat, I'd use a tt protector, kashimax one won't really look out of place.
-
• #89
I hope you're going for a dark chain, and none of that silver nonsense.
Hows your's coming along ey?
Slowly. Amassing parts, toying with ideas about resprays. Considering building it as is just so I can ride it somewhere. I need to come over and get inspired by this in the steel.

• #90
your chain line will be slightly off with that bb Chris
-

@TeeTee, a dark chain you say? I hadn't really though of that, I don't think I am "up" on my chains - what would you recommend? Hilary has some nice looking ones in some lovely packaging which appeals. And yeah, pop over, still owe you a beer and a head badge, going to have to hold of until feb as I'm doing the whole "Banuary" thing.
@Hilly Ben, for a second I didn't pick up on that being a joke and panicked! < idiot.

FWIW I'd go Gipiemme headset, slightly more niché.
What are you going to be using this for? Summer rides / pub frolicking?
Also what is the saddle, san marco laser?
-
• #93
Thats what I was thinking, maybe, need to check stack heights, it also has really nice engraving (?) around the cups unlike the Campag equivalent.
Use wise, track racing! It's prob about time I actually gave it a go... worried HH might destroy it though.
The saddles a San Marco Corsaire.

Yeah, after dallying briefly with coloured chains (sorry world), then silver chains, I am now of the belief that chains should be that browny blue steel colour, especially on 'vintage' builds. I've a Coventry and it's very nice. They were standard spec on the Raleigh track by the looks of it, and I think we're the top of the range chain made by Renold in Manchester. That said, I've no real idea about chains. It's more an aesthetic thing. Presumably for this you want something slick and Italian. It's all about the details.
I need to get that Raleigh done so we can team up for the beginners' pursuit, eh?
-

I'm seriously up for that if you are... aiming to get to the first LFGSS track day as I have no idea about track racing.
Hilary has one of those Coventry chains I think, sounds like a good plan, I'm slightly worried by too much silver on this build too so double good idea.

Yeah. That'd be fun.
