Maybe they could also do something about the idiots scooting down the lefthand side of large vehicles stopped a bit further down shoreditch high st too.

Would be nice to see police stopping the many drivers who speed through on red at the junction of Great Eastern Street and Shoreditch High St for a change. Still yet to see a motorist stopped for rlj, yet I see so many drivers doing it

Cyclist. On a nice single speed with bullhorns.
His numberplate probably showed up as suspicious on their computer. Oh, hang on ...

Couldn't figure out what he was getting told off for. He had lights and hadn't jumped any reds. Mind you I was well boozy so maybe I just imagined the whole thing...

Got stopped last night leaving Piccadilly, heading for Hyde Park Corner. Jumped an empty ped crossing, then got pulled. Expecting plod to get his ticket-book out, instead just got a patronising lecture and let on my way. Happy days. Not so happy for the dude who got pulled along with me, who had no front brake on a geared bike.

PoPo at the junction between Regent St and Gt Marlbro' St this morning. Pulling people turning left on the red. Particularly annoying as the flow is always predominantly vehicles leaving Gt Marlbro' towards Brook St, so loads of space and pedestrians can't cross anyway. Crack down apparently prompted by cyclist hitting a pedestrian at this junction.
What happened to the discussions of us getting the same rules as France re. cyclists turning on red? I remember talk of this being a way to help the old HGV problem

If the ped light is showing as green, its not particularly pleasant to have a knobhead cyclist whiz in front of you.
Unless the rules of the road change, just wait for your lights to go green, ain't that hard is it. Coppers nabbing offenders is one way to teach some people a lesson, as was the case with me a few years back.

:(
pedestrians have enough to watch out for when crossing junctions, I don't think cyclists turning on reds should be made legal.

As I said, this is when traffic is already moving, so peds cannot cross anyway. I am by no means an RLJ advocate, but being able to get ahead onto gt marlborough st is very handy in avoiding being forced into parked cars by vans, and such a system works very well in france and germany

Or maybe it might be a decent way to make lemmings have a moment of thought before launching themselves into the public highway.

We could always make a law that if a crossing is within 50m then not using it is against the law.
A jaywalking law for whenever facilities exist to accommodate safe crossing.
Lemmings are an issue for car drivers too. And as Londoners we're all masters of crossing the road in busy traffic and missing the back of a passing car by inches. You've no idea how much that scares the drivers.

This. I hate it when this happens. Both in car and bicycle

Cyclist often have a green left turn in Netherlands, where it's still red for cars to turn left.
Only caveat is that pedestrians also get green, so you need to turn left carefully.
Saves a fight with cars though. No doubt too sensible for UK ;) -

They also have that strict liability thing in the Netherlands, which means cyclists are assumed to be at fault if they hit a pedestrian.

Wouldn't that be analogous to being forced to use a cycle lane if there is one? Would you agree with that law?
Not saying stupid peds don't piss me off, but so do most road users.

In los Angeles you can turn right ( our left) on reds. This almost always is in conflict with the ped crossing phase. Obviously the peds have priority.
It seemed to work quite well while i was there. Can't see how allowing cycles would be more dangerous...

right on red is the law everywhere in the states for all traffic. some junctions are signed for no right on red, but those are the exception.
if we could only get the Idaho cycle stop laws here, I'd be very happy.
-
• #1096
The problem is the mentality of most cyclists on the streets of london is if that law came into place, they wouldn't wait for the peds to finish crossing. I think it could generate even more conflict.
-
• #1097
Strict liability is good I think. Everybody knows where they stand that way.
And cars wins from bike, bike wins from pedestrian ;) -

I get pretty upset when I see cyclists go through reds, for the amount of time it saves, it really isn't worth the risk.

I think skydiving really isn't worth the risk, but as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else i don't complain about it.
