  • The not so good - the north side of Southwark Bridge there is a policeman hiding behind a parked lorry just before Cannon St where I presume he is going to be ticketing cyclists that go through the lights early

    Simples - don't RLJ ;-)

I agree! I always stop there but I do however set off early through there as I know the timings and it can be a bit whacky races with bikes, motorbikes and trucks etc

  • How are they measuring the speed of the cyclists?

That's a good question- is a cyclist large enough and with sufficient albedo to allow a laser gun to work?

  • Yep using a handheld speed gun.....and I can verify it was correct from my garmin. I overtook a couple of cars while about half a kilometer away and thought it would be too far away so carried on overtaking....it wasn't.

Max £200 fine 2nd time apparently.

    What I thought.

Google reveals conflicting reports about this. They do seem to work on cyclkists, however a lot of sources say they can be wildly inaccurate.

  • Isn't there the old "when was the speed gun calibrated" defense in these circumstances?

Be interesting to see the basis for this in law- I'm not that familiar with it but it's meant to be arguable I think as to whether it would stand up in court.

Of course, as there is a 20mph limit we should not exceed that, so it is a moot point.

    Ahem

  • Yep, that would be a great resouce for the coppers if it was admissable.

  • Southwark St blitz. Own up if it was you who ran the red.

  • I'd like to know of not having a speedometer would be a defence against speeding?

  • On public roads - NA as the speed limits don't apply
On private roads or other areas with a bylaw implementing a speedlimit (eg Richmond Park) - not a defence.

  • Motorcycle cops at the crossroads by Barbican station the other day. I was enormously pleased to see the cop stride towards us and then pull aside for a "chat" the scooter who had ridden into the advance cycle box.

  • bike register catch all holdup on kingsland road going south past haggerston station

edit: on closer inspection it looks like they are just doing bikereg and not apprehending nodders without lights or tubular trispokes at this time.

  • By a police Anpr interceptor on the Walworth Road?

  • A cyclist or a driver?

  • Cyclist. On a nice single speed with bullhorns.

    a what ?

was it one of these perchance ?

    or one of these ?

  • I'm having a Proustian moment. If I went over to the toys thread now I'd have a melt down.

  • Police were pulling over and fining cyclists jumping the left turn lights there. They were hiding around some parked cars just before Calvert Ave turning

  • Nah not that cool. It felt like watching an episode of road wars....

Was the bike running on red diesel?
