@ Skinny .. Here's a test Wipperman did in 2010 .. If that's any use for your decision making process

Unsurprising really when the two Connex 10s chains at the top of the chart are stainless steel .. But the rest of the chart makes good reading from my perspective

how much could i rely on 28h rims?

How heavy are you?
Average weight riders on butted three cross 28s should have no problems. -

Currently debating whether those Record wheels work, or whether I should get some DA black ones instead. If I stick with the records,

A lot of people, myself included (at 80kg) use mavic ellipses as everyday wheels and they are 20/24h iirc.

I rode Gipiemme Grecal Parades for a while with no problems. (16h....95kg)
Did feel a bit nervous though.

It depends if you're building the wheels up or if they are off the shelf.
Regal explained it somewhere...

I'll be picking this up in Tokyo for my 2013 project.

Ellipses are 20/20. RS30s are 16/20, and I'm fine on them at 90kg+. I've used 20/24 spoke R500s off road. In the end, it all depends on the rims, a pair of Mavic Argent 7s or GEL280s with 28 spokes are going to be for hill climbing whippets only, whereas Mavic DeeMax have 28 spokes up front and are used for World Cup DH races.

ha!
nice1, looking forwardThanks mate. The guy who outbid me didn't read the postage details properly so I got it at my bid and not a penny more. Just trying to figure out if I need a bike bag to bring it back on the plane with me or not.
Virgin let you take a bike on board for free, but I'm not sure if I can get that deal if the frame is packaged in the box it is going to ship in. Does anyone here know? Who's used Virgin to transport bikes before and did you use a bike bag or a box?

Average weight riders on butted three cross 28s should have no problems.I stay around the 11 stone/70kg area (maybe more after Christmas) i may end up carrying heavy things in my bag though, but id be riding more carefully then anyway.
I had a 28h front Miche pistard front wheel, never had a problem, thinking more about the strength of the rear wheel though, thinking find some Miche 28h track hubs, mavic rims and some foldable gatorskins, so not factory built wheels. Just after some light weight wheels that could handle every day riding.

I dropped off my ESB to Super Ted earlier this week. He replaced my stays with wider ones to allow for up to 2.25" tyre clearance. I'll be ordering something fat after Christmas – maybe Halo Twin Rail 2.2 or Conti Race King 2.2 for full on winter mode. Anyway, yesterday I picked it up from Armourtex and built it straight up.
To give you an idea of clearance, those are 45c tyres on there right now and the wheel is slammed in the dropout. :)
(Cheers to Apollo for lending me his finest hairspray.)
She looks beautiful...

Yeah, those first wheels are junk, but work for my commute. They're heavy, and look like crap, but give me an impression of what black rims/hubs look like on the bike.
The real question is silver or black and low profile or deep rims.
I love the Records, but I'm not sure they suit such a late 90s paint job, I think black/graphite would look better. -

It's more of a question of how well build the wheels are, don't worry about it.

light weight wheels that could handle every day riding.Unless you've got real WW rims you'll easily be fine with 28h on the rear. I'm c.83-6kg and ride with a bag on 28h/28h open pros through London.
As you're pretty light you've got plenty of scope and it really comes down to budget and aesthetics. How much do you want to spend? Do you want front and rear to match?
Stans Alpha's 28h/24h with Sapim lasers and a lighting front road hub. Would be my initial thought... maybe with some slightly more heavy duty rear spokes.
Or some Kinlin 380's... basically there are loads of choices. It just depends what you're after and what your limitations are.

Yep, it's an Unknown track frame, but this one is a little different. It's a custom size that is handbuilt from 7005 with smooth welds. A lot of their production frames were made of a different grade aluminium and had rough welds.
I bought it from the company owner who was selling it as it has been hanging on their showroom wall in Seoul for a couple of years and they have a new range of frames coming out for 2013.
Thanks to Archangels for finding it on ebay and sharing!
No, that was just unfortunate, but as a general recommendation I suggest spreading your chain budget over a greater number of cheaper chains, you spend the same in total on chains but less on cassettes and chainrings.
