  • Cheers Ernest, was looking at getting some dark blue ones off him, but now thinking black / white might be better.

In my dream world, I'd probably have enough money floating around to get these:

    ...and attach them to these:

    ...but I don't!

  • Looking really nice Gaz (:

  • Cheers Jay.
A quick question for whoever might know the answer: If I'm my shoe size is a UK 8.5 / 9, then what size clips do I need? Information seems to be contradictory after a little google research, some say medium and some say large.

  • I'd go medium, got large campag on my orrell, and with size 10s/11s they feel a bit big...

  • It's been a while since anything happened with this... but I now have a finished chainset.
As previously stated, I was planning on holding out for a set of Unfluted Super Record cranks for this... but then I saw these:

They were too good a deal to pass up: quite badly listed on ebay, with only a couple of small photos, not much blurb and a reasonable starting price, and only listed for 24 hours. They are practically NOS, and came with all the bolts and an NOS 46t chainring.

I've switched the chainring to a 51t, and added some super record dust caps that I bought a while ago (I prefer the flatter design of them to the globe shaped ones). Here's how the build is shaping up now:

I'll have to wait a very long time until I can justify spending more money on the correct pedals and sundries, but a chain and 16t sprocket will probably get involved quite soon. I won't be splashing out on a period correct chain or cog - I'll probably just go to Condor and get something midrange that works.

PM me if you're in the market for an NOS 46t 3/32 campag chainring (144bcd)

  • This is fucking beautiful, love it!

  • looks great, good to see it nearing completion!

  • Not seen this thread before, cracking bike that. Had a Robterts for a while, silly stiff and uncomfy, but bags of fun

  • Gorgeous, loving it.

  • 51?

  • Valve caps >>>>>>>>>>>

  • It's mint. A bike to be very proud of.

  • I've always thought that white valve caps made you go really fast and that 51 tooth chainrings looked kind of good against white garage doors...

  • chain now on!

almost like actually having a bike.

  • white tape looks hot. very nice dude.

  • Love your build, perfection. White tape looks so much better, no more circus association over here.

  • proper lovely gaz.

  • classic beauty

  • Wow stunning

  • Thanks everyone.

I have a bit of a hangover, so I thought it might be diverting for me to do the accounts for this project so far, and, whilst I'm at it, provide a more detailed spec for anyone who might be interested. Please allow me this indulgence, and marvel at how much of my hard-earned cash I've managed to spank on building a bike that I will probably be too scared even to use!

    Original Bike
Roberts Track (frame no: 85 116) Campgnolo Pista headset, Campagnolo Pista b/b: £70, Herne Hill jumble
(£150 for the whole bike, -£65 for the wheels, -£15 for the bars and stem)

    Drive
Campagnolo Pista cranks, 170mm: £140 (minus whatever I get for the 46t chainring), ebay
Campagnolo Pista 51t chainring: £36.50, ebay
Campagnolo Pista pedals: £50, Vintage Bike Cave
Campagnolo Super Record dustcaps: £12.99, ebay
Campagnolo 16t Cog: £7, primitive robot on here.
    Campagnolo lockring: £20, condor
    Uzumi chain: 12.99, condor

    Wheels
Campagnolo Pista low-flange hubs, Campagnolo Delta rims, unknown spokes: £160, ebay
Veloflex Record tyres: £50, from a friend.
Inner tubes: £10 ish, from LBS.

    Finishing Kit
    Campagnolo Record seatpost: £62.75, ebay
    Cinelli Unicanitor saddle: £66.76, ebay
Campagnolo seatpost bolt: £9.99, campy oldy
Cinelli bar plugs: £3, campy oldy
Cinelli 2a 100mm stem, Cinelli Pista 67-39 bars: £128.56, philosovril on here.
Benotto tape: £12 (I think), from Jay75 on here
    Cinelli cages: £17.33, ebay

    TOTAL: £871.86

I'm pretty sure Santa will be getting me some extraordinarily overpriced Cinelli toe-straps, so just pedals and clips left to push this even higher...
and judging by ebay prices at the moment that'll probably cost in the region of £100-120 more.
Which would make the grand total something like £900

That's roughly the same as a new Moda Forte.
    So there you have it.

  • Got a little box of goodies for xmas:

    It's all about the details!

  • perfect!!! and for that price a bargain!!!

  • Absolutely Stunning!

  • DAT last pic.
