Sorry, didn't see the already lengthy thread relating to this.
Main point should have been that police are getting heavy handed: Didn't go through a red light - set off on red-amber and they still issued me with a caution for running a red light. They couldn't see any lights from where they were standing and based ticket on fact that I left lights quicker than the cars. Threatened me with a fine if i didn't shut up too.. -

I am indeed another velodrone. Going easy on the red lights - cheers

Coming down Bishopsgate at ~4:15pm, a WPC giving a man a good seeing to outside Boots at the junction with Wormwood Street.

PoPo at the end of the CS3 by tower gateway forcing everyone to get off their bikes and walk 3 meters to either the other cycle path or the road, or pay a £30 fine.
Have city police not got anything better to do than enforce what is at its worst a very minor infringement, and should not be either.
I suspect that one person on a bike was being a dick and made it worst for the rest of us.
Rant over.

Pedantic bullshit. They seemed to be quite enjoying themselves.

This really annoyed me too. I seems insane for cyclists to have to get off for a few meters to join another cycle path, or get to a crossing which has cycle lights on it. Grr

Yeah I had a bit of an argument with one about the fact the crossing had a green cycle light on it but they did not seem interested in debating that point and it was not any clearer what it meant.
The traffic light looks similar to this:

I assume this means you are allowed to cycle across?

I'm moving to London next week given that I run reds all the time (where it's safe).
Living in Dalston and ...
Don't worry, you'll fit right in. Do you have an arts degree, too?

I asked this question to them, and I didn't exactly get a clear answer.
In order for me to get from the end of the CS3 to Shorter Street I have to:
1) Dismount at the end of the CS3
2) Walk 3 meters to the crossing
3) I am then permitted to mount my bike to cycle across, but I guess i'd stop half way along until i'm in the correct lane for turning right
4) Wait at the red light until in goes green and turn onto Shorter StreetSeems insane to me.

Police at the junction of Princess Street/London Road stopping cyclists making an illegal left turn from CS7 into the Waterloo-bound bus lane. Squeaked through as they'd stopped the chap in front of me. It's a frustrating bit of road design, as the traffic is held and bikes going straight over, but as the pedestrian light is also green, you come into conflict with pedestrians crossing the road.
Tomorrow I'll be getting off and walking round the corner!

Police this morning on the A3 between Kennington and E&C pulling people over (I'm guessing for RLJing).

Ha! People told us about this last week and that popo had warned about ticketing everyone on Monday. We sent a few emails to the cycle task force police at TfL because the signs say you can ride everywhere at that junction. They came back to me yesterday to say they had had a word with the local SNT police and PCSOs, giving a lesson on cycling law.
As a result they backed off and said they would only ticket people behaving badly and breaking other laws - harassing peds etc. So it seems we forestalled a massive show down with hundreds of cyclists appealing against tickets, and all winning. That's what you pay us for.It seems they have had a lot of complaints from peds. It makes you wonder how anti-cyclist enforcement often gets to the top of local police agenda. but that's another rant.

Yes you can cycle up to it and across. I often go into the junction on green and then turn left towards Tower Bridge. That not what the designers thought of. It is high risk because eastbound motors cut across the route or do ueys - but I think it is a lawful move.(marickvillegreens - whatever next? I will be landing near there in a couple of weeks. Where's a good place to hire bikes for a week or two in Sydney?)

I got busted last night at Elephant, for a pretty mediocre left turn through a red light! £30 fine. Apparently a cycle safety initiative! Thanks!

Hold on, since when it's illegal to do so? that bus lane also allowed bicycle as well.

It's not a problem to use the bike lane, but you can't turn left from the lights at CS7/Princess St - all bikes are supposed to proceed straight over to Ontario Street. The really annoying bit is that since the only northbound traffic in that lane is buses, they could just re-phase the lights to have a safe pedestrian phase, then bikes, then buses. But no, gotta smooth the traffic flow...

Was that on London Road or by the old Southern Roundabout. They're doing both at the moment it seems.
Might be a belated reaction to the accident down that way last week ?
