  • Similar issue for me, but not due to thighs with their own ecosystem. Medium softshell's too tight, but the sleeves on the large are much too long. No colour flattered me either, so I'll have to rely on myself as usual.

  • I am 32in waist and 30in inseam - none of the bibs/tights match my amazing physique on the Rapha size chart - I am sure I'm not alone in this. Only the* extra small* is made for my inseam, but the waist is 28in - will the lycra stretch to my bulk? Whereas the medium - 32in waist - has a 32in inseam, which is too long. I don't think I'll sleep tonight worrying about this.

  • ^ I can only suggest medium based on my similar sizing and the fact that I went with medium. No issues in the size for me. I also assume you are talking about the classic bibs - and the pro sizes are smaller.

oh - and sleep well tonight....

  • they all feel really really tight the first few days. it will pass

    Go on length.

  • Yeah, they were definitely tighter than my other bibs at first but I much prefer it now. 32" waist here and a fellow shortarse and Mediums fit great (Classic Bibs).

  • Silly question:

Is there a shop I can try stuff on?? Is it here?:

Rapha Racing Ltd Imperial Works, Perren St. London NW5 3ED

  • I think that's an office/depo...The Cafe on Brewer St has stock (or you can go to Condor cycles)

  • ^^ Yeah I just found it Dan, cheers mate. Ignore me.

  • Lovely shop/cafe with friendly staff (and, as you might imagine, you can take your bike in) - but be prepared to part with some serious cash once inside!

  • is the coffee really that expensive? :]

  • Yes, it is! So I bought the hard shell jacket instead :- )

Worth it's weight in gold, I might add!

  • I'm going to look at one of those. I really can't afford it though. Hopefully they won't have my size.

  • they'll be in Evans and M&S soon.......time to move on.......

  • ^ Yeah it looks like it's going that was doesn't it. what with the Team Sky Sponsorship aswell.

  • Ed if the softshell is not warm enough then you need to work a bit harder on the bike. Those things are like frigging ovens.

    This

Rapha phoned me today and said they have decided they made an error in declining my application and I am now in the Industry Purchase Program.

So, nice and a little less pricey for me...

Good to hear. Did they say why they looked again? Also IIRC it's not uniformly applicable to the whole range I know you're looking at a good deal on the softshell for instance where you may not be able to use it on something like the mac softshell at all.

It's a great match for the jeans tbf if you need that kind of thing in your life.

    Oh p-lease.

It's clearly made by Anderson's, who've been making that style for eons. The Uniqlo is a cheap copy.

Even M&S are in on the act (their quality is nowhere near Anderson's):

You definitely dont want tight fitting shoes or gloves in the winter.

I cycled home in thick woolen hiking socks squashed into heavily ventilated Northwave aerators last night. It was fecking miserable.

    S'why I'm on this thread.

Are the Rapha winter bib tights warm? anyone?

I did a Dr bike yesterday (meaning I'm stationary all day outdoors) in the winter tights and just about got through. On the ride home I kept my jeans on and just went with a short sleeved jersey and it was just right. (NB they aren't padded though)

  • Transfer jacket is perfect for dr bikes.

  • really? i dont think i would want to get a 190 quid jacket covered in road clag and chain filth

  • Got the pro team bundle in the mail today. F'ing ace.

  • "The cost price advantage is a secondary issue."
    a truck load of shite.
is he also saying that british craftmanship is basically rubbish?
not like i'm offended, or anything, but is it just too obvious to look for chinese (or equally skilled other origin) labour over here??!
there shorely MUST be a catch!!???

He's not wrong at all. Since the arse went out of our manufacturing industry (why train in an industry/craft you know will be unquestionably priced out the market in the future?) there's fewer and fewer trained/resourced/equipped British manufacturers that can make stuff like this. fewer still that will do it for a cost that would even make Rapha's pricing dept blush.

The secondary effect of China (et al) being cheaper is that all R&D, training, entrepreneurship is focussed there. As much as I hate acting like an apologist for the iPod of cycling brands, anyone in manufacturing will tell you the same.

Tune in next week for more stunning revelations that will genuinely blow your mind....

    washing machine?

and don't use the jacket to wipe your hands on. i tend to put an oversize company t-shirt on over what i am wearing for dr bikes

  • The transfer jacket is seducing me..

  • The hussy..

  • Brazen whore.
