• Well, I'm not sure whether starting a thread means I'm assuming any kind of responsibility for what follows, but I'll aim to be at the polo court for 9am ready to ride up to the tea stop at High Beeches and then onwards by the route we used last year.

See the first post here for route and lots of useful stuff: http://www.lfgss.com/thread74324.html

Of course, if the weather is truly shite I might fail to appear. Who's in?

  • Possibly up for this depending on whether I do the Gilliver's Travels the day before.

This route looks a little more fixed friendly though.

  • away :(

  • I think I might be spoiling cycling for myself, I clicked on the link, looked at the route and thought "three hours should do it".

I might need to relearn how to enjoy a gentle ride in the country.

  • Now take care on your ride home Doutzki, don't go smashing your bike up again!

I've mentioned this over the way at yacf. If there are any recruits from there, I'll do my best to make introductions.

in whatever the weather, but attendance very much dependent on alcohol consumed that weekend...

  • If you need to drink to get out on the bike you should probably reassess your lifestyle ;)

  • Can do both rides I guess. In.

    Weather/alcohol dependant.

  • well, if people are worried about having to make it to Furneux Pelham or even Cambridge before hitting the booze, there's always the option of guinness in the bidon, or a tweed hipflask, or a party 7 in a carradice...

What was that you said? Oh, I see. Yes, Sunday morning can be a tricky time if alcofrol has been had to excess the previous night. But I'm not expecting this to be an athletic excursion - the terrain is certainly hangover-friendly.

  • Can I propose a slight change of the route out of Hackney, to involve a right turn onto Well Street, along Cassland Road, Kenworthy Road and then right onto Marsh Hill/Homerton Road, left onto Eastway, Ruckholt, Orient Way up to the Lea Bridge Road?

I seem to remember that last year we wandered around a bit at this part of the ride.

  • This pretty much passes my home at around the halfway stage, is it ok to jump in?

  • As this is, I think, a bit of a free-for-all, I cannot see any problems with extra folk joining us along the way. We may be joined at High Beech by an Essex contingent as well.

The only tricky part is going to be guessing what time we will be in your neck of the woods (assuming you are not, as your name suggests, in the obscene further reaches of the outer solar system) as we'll be subject to all sorts of delays and faffage, I'm sure. (Last year, my boss who art in Barley was going to wave through the gates of his manor house but we were so late that he gave up and went back to polishing his Purdeys. Or something.) But if you're willing to wait for an hour or two for a straggly bunch of riders to appear out of the mist/drizzle/downpour/snow then it would be good to see you there.

  • I think that sounds agreeable, I dont mind hanging about, there's a rather nice little pub with a small front garden in Much Hadham that I could sit and drink some orange juice* in while I wait.

  • If you like, I can try to remember to text you when we are not too far from Much H.

Last time we wondered about because my glasses fogged up and i couldn't read the garmin so took us on an 'interesting' route :)
