How waterproof is the on one jacket? And how is the fit?
-
• #528
very much 'racing' fit.
I would buy an XXL for sure if I was getting again. The other day bombing across sluises and tidal barrages in Holland with sleet and rain it held off the water pretty well. You're welcome to try mine for size.

Tenderloin: How big are you? I'm 195 cm and 102 kgs (around 6' 5" and 16 stone), and a bit unsure if I'll fit an XXL?

There's apparently only 1 in stock.
I'm 6'2 and 180 odd pounds - and I'd like the XXL - it could be a bit touch and go.
Although, if it didn't fit. I'd buy it off you :)

That's a kind offer but I'm not in London! I'm usually a medium, I might go for the large just so I can fit more layers underneath if I need to.

Although that bontrager commuter looks like it might suit me better, I'm more after waterproofness than anything else.

I just bought the Bontrager commuter in medium black, will report back first time it rains!

This evening I was in my Rapha pro team jacket, it was slightly too warm at 6pm but come the return journey at 10pm in the drizzle it was perfect.
Had a rain jacket in the bag in case the weather got worse, but it was not needed. I am much happier layering and having the options than trying to use one do it all jacket for many different weather conditions.

Uniqlo have a packable (ish) moncleur style down coat that I team with a breathable rain jacket, the idea is to get the best of both worlds if the weather changes, At only £50 can't go far wrong...
That said, does anyone own the Campagnolo rain jacket (La Flandre I believe its called)? At least it's one outer layer that doesn't scream "my other bikes a Brompton"

Hopefully the Bontrager jacket I just bought will provide moderate warmth so that at this time of year I can just wear that and a shirt but then layer up when it gets colder. I totally agree with DJs comment about not wanting a "do it all jacket" so hopefully this will bridge the gap between a non-waterproof hoodie and my thick as anything ski jacket that has been keeping my dry but boiling me on my bike the last couple of years.

just bought a stealth, awesome jacket

The bontrager arrived today, yet to try it on the bike but it looks good at first inspection. It fits fairly large, I ordered a medium but could probably have gone for the small and still fit a couple of layers underneath. It's got a lot of reflective parts all over it which is handy because a decent amount of my riding is at night coming back from work at 3-4am. Will report back when I've worn it on the bike tonight.

On the hunt for one for this winter. The on one looked the business but sold out :( anyone know of anything similar that could do the business?

Has anyone had any experience of OutWet? I want the rain jacket offered at Planet X, but am nervous of sizing since it is Italian and they do tend to be one or even 2 sizes smaller than us plucky Brits

I've been wearing my bontrager for a few weeks now, it stores heat like crazy, which is good when it's chilly, and has pit zips when it's not. It's yet to let any water in but hasn't seen any torrential rain yet. I'd reccomend it!

I'm after a jacket that
-is black
-has reflective piping
-has front and rear zip pockets
-zips itself into a stuffsack
-has a belt on the stuffsack for waist wearing
-is PROPERLY waterproof (by which I mean does not leak even after 150 miles in torrential rain, which admittedly I don't do often, but sometimes it happens)
-if not women specific, is sold in a size that's not going to look ridiculous on someone who's 5'6ideally:
-has a hood
-has an arse flap (is there a more polite term for these?)I won't buy Gore or Endura because they've both let me down in the past despite religiously following washing instructions.
Any suggestions?

Isn't there something nice, but a bit pricey that is suitable?
-
• #546
I don't think it exists :-)
-
• #547
No because I know from people who own those jackets that they LEAK.
-
• #548
My city rain jacket has never leaked. There is no hood though and the stuff sack doesn't come with a belt attachment.
-
• #549
front pockets tend to result in items hanging down and being hit by your knees
mudguards > arseflaps
hoods tend to billow up whilst cycling and obscure vision
waterproof is terrible for cycling in my experience, it tends to make me feel like a boil in the bag meal
buy a stuff sack with a belt loop

I have never had an issue with stuff in front pockets hanging down, I have mudguards, I would expect a cycling jacket with a hood to have a zipped collar, and I like feeling like a boil in the bag meal.
I'll be using this again this winter.
