• Also, did you manage to see what type of car it was? Perhaps there aren't too many of this type around and the police might be able to trace it without a number plate.

hmmm im not really much of a car guy so wouldn't know it...other than it was a black, low, boy-racery style hatchbatch with a class A prick driving it. To be honest it all happened so fast, I willed my (by then) road level eyes to catch the number plate but alas it just got smaller and smaller as it went into the distance, like the bottom of the eye test chart. I will chase up the the cops and local council...but not holding my breath.

cheers for the advise etc...wish some of my fellow road sharers were as considerate...ie. all the car drivers who were waiting at the lights who saw it happen. It makes me despair for humankind sometimes. I don't need an ambulance or anything but a simple..."you alright mate"...wouldn't hurt would it.

  • As an aside, right near my work (in Canning town which is not a part of London I enjoy - major shitehole)...a car had launched itself/been launched off an overpass (A13 I think) onto a slip-road below, multiple fire engines/ambulances in attendance. Sunday mornings eh. Methinks empty roads make people think they are on a closed race track or something. Stay safe out there.

fucking hell, I ride by there (on the lower slip roads) often. hope no-one badly hurt although it sounds serious for whoever was in the car. hope you get some results with your CCTV search too.

yeah it didn't look too good from a distance though i didn't really examine too closely as i had had quite enough road carnage for one morning.

i managed to mash my way home in one piece in 53-12. good news is that i now have beer beside me and i popped into the LBS and and they did a proper check on the frame for alignment - all good - so now just need a replacement rear mech.

Looks like there are a few cameras at that intersection...some way up on high poles so not sure what they see but nonetheless I will be on the rampage with whatever sketchy local authority covers poplar high street..."it could have been been the beloved offspring of local council employees crossing that junction etc etc"...

  • Phone the non emergency police number and report it. They'll know all the cctv.

...just called them and t hey said to go into a local police station and report it and they can check the cctv...fingers crossed for a positive result on this one....also a good excuse to nip out from work at lunch time tomorrow.

  • This is from the Oh Shit thread yesterday, by me.

Nearly run down by a skip lorry today, in a car park, behind the office. He looked quite sheepish as we both stopped at the same gate. I spoke to the security guards and got the name of the company, as the driver just gave me a grunt. Just fired off a complaint. Jokers.

And today I got a reply:

Morning Matthew I trust you are well? Having interviewed our driver, he has apologised for his rather aggressive driving this morning . Please accept my apologies, we take these incident very seriously and having spoken to him this is less than the standards we expect He has been given a formal warning over this standard of behaviour .The excuse was that he was late as the building has a strict timing schedule this is not an acceptable reason for this standard of driving. Once again please accept our apologises. If you wish to discuss this further please contact me. Kind Regards XXXXXX XXXXXXXX

  • Those kisses are a bit familiar....

  • Sexy harassment for sure.

  • I obscured her name because it wasn't her fault, but this was the company: http://www.limerecycling.com/

  • A firm that recycles limes?

    Impressive stuff.

    Yeah, it's a green business.

  • Yeah, it's a green business.

  • I was waiting at a red light circa 7am,(full green man flashing) enjoying the fresh morning air…a couple of cars at the perpendicular junction (i.e. to my right) idling waiting for their light. I get the green light and pull away…hear a massive revving to my right…look right and see some lowered, black hatch-back boy racery type sh!tbox, flying towards me at.........
This guy ran a straight red at high speed…there was no amber coming or going…

Not trying to make excuses for this idiot but is there a left turn filter light for the traffic to the right? I've had a few close calls over the years caused by filter lights. The traffic in the left lane starts moving under the green filter light and some numpty waiting to go straight ahead takes the movement of the left turning traffic rather than the traffic light as his cue to pull away.

  • I'm here all week.

  • This is from the Oh Shit thread yesterday, by me.

And today I got a reply:

Don't know why it's skipped the quotes, but regardless that's a good result.

  • it only includes the previous post when you hit the quote button not any quoted posts.

  • I had a near miss yesterday morning, a white van didn't see me and nearly squashed me, because he was on his mobile. When I confronted him, he gave me the finger and the usual bad language. I got my phone out and snapped him using his phone & the number plate. Noticed when I got to work that the van had a company logo. So I emailed the them with the photos attached - not really expecting anything. But to my surprise, the director got back to me within 30 min with a short message that he was out of the office, but took this very seriously and would get back to me. Today I got a longer reply from the Operations Manager.

    Dear ....
I can confirm that your email has been passed over to our Director .... .... , who agrees that your complaint is of a very serious nature, and will be dealt with in the appropriate manner. ..... wishes to apologise profoundly on our engineers behalf and assure that the engineer in question will receive disciplinary action.

RDF would not want any of their employees to endanger any pedestrian or cyclist, engineers are not permitted to use mobile phone whilst driving, and all vehicles are fitted with blue tooth, as standard. Any bad language and hand signs will not be tolerated and hope that this experience has not left you with any lasting effects for your future cycling

Many thanks for your understanding and wish you safe cycling.

  • ^ win!

  • Not so much dangerous as just rubbish, I love the way that the chap has parked very neatly in the ASL box:

And the nicely ironic company slogon on the side of the van rounds it off.

  • but isn't it perfectly legal for vehicles to do that if the lights change and they just happen to be there? better than running the red...

  • Yes, it is, but Dammit may of course have seen what actually happened.

  • Yep, chap approached on red, jumped the light, and carefully parked ahead of the stop line.

He amazingly affronted to have his picture taken- I may have stolen part of his soul.

  • Stop moaning about it and do something:

    Every little helps...

  • I may have stolen part of his soul.

Quick! While you have it do a deal with the Devil and get some cool stuff.

  • I got a Twix for it.
