ahh, that's what the twist was for...
When I put straps on my Zeus pedals recently I went to twist, but because the Bindas are so blinking thick I couldn't fit a twist in!
I was trying to remember why we always used to twist our Christophe Nylon straps on our pre-spd mountainbikes and thought it was to prevent the pedal clogging with mud!
Agreed with tilover that the openings on Zeus are so small the straps are going nowhere!
The cages on my Zeus's were trimmed off and hand filed to look like track pedals by a previous owner. Apparently this was a common mod for crit racers and weight weenies back in the day.
