touring tyres - to mismatch, or not to mismatch? (taken across from the touring forum)
so i have a question.
i'm doing a three week tour and since my current tyres are 4 years' old this seems a good time to refresh them.
i've decided they will be schwalbe durano plus. they come 23, 25, 28 etc. and given that i'm not using front panniers, is there a good reason not to go for a 28mm on the back wheel, to better support the weight of gear, and 25mm on the front, for a little extra speed?
road conditions will be reasonably good, mostly paved, throughout.
any thoughts?

Ignore the inevitable 'scoble post about using a 38 rear and 2.1x26" front.
Mixing 28 rear, 25 front is fine and should work well for your intended application. -

That's nice. I have been thnking about puting some bigger wheels and fater tyres on the front of our nihola.
Should make it comfier for the kid and better rolling on cobbles and such.

any thoughts?
I have just been looking through ebay, and there are some serious bargains on second hand tyres.
I currently run a 25/28mm combo on my fixeh. It works fine. The 28 rear is a spesh armadilo - which is a hideous tyre so I really can't comment if there is any benefit. There is certainly no downside, and logic would say that it should be a sensible move.
I just wonder why you wouldn't want a 28 up front touring. The weight is minor and should give a bit more comfort.

and 25mm on the front, for a little extra speed
it'll be better when i'm back in londres, minus the weight, too.
re comfort: that's thought of (i have old elbow injury). going to pad the bars with double or triple layers of nice fat squishy tape, plus good gloves.

Or go a size bigger to 28c for that extra comfort without losing speed.

all my recent audaxes/rides have been on my steel roadie/tourer and I've come to love the 28c tyres, so much more comfortable and really minimal, if any, noticable change in speed

28c is between that less is more and more is less sort of area to me, not very experienced though (not yet).

Any views on the Bagman Supports? I'm using the Pendle more but find it hangs funny, support could help.

Can of worms there. I have the old style without the struts and I find it way better than just the bare bag but it's now been discontinued in favour of the supported one.

Defo getting an Enabler fork and some anything cages for the fatbike. Looks like a real stable way of carrying stuff over lumpy snow covered surfaces.

I just saw someone with a set of columbus carbon forks with canti-bosses and side rack bosses.
Just thought I'd share in case anyone didn't know they exist:

Or any Specialized tricross forks, they have massive clearance for a 29er tire

This is my practical around town bike.
It's nice and sturdy, handles well and isn't all that desirable for thieves.

That is awesome.

^^ Nice to see an old Kona still getting some use.
XTR on a town bike :-)
I've got these on my yukon to cover over the guards and 25mm tyres.
