  • Eden Hazard is God...

  • Liking the look of Raheem Sterling. Reminds me of Michael Owen when he made his debut against Wimbledon. He came on and scored if I remember. One of the few games I have actually been to :)
I reckon he is going to kick some arse this season starting next week against the pathetic looking Arse

  • I think it's Chelsea or City this year, with **Everton **and Utd goin for 3rd

Fuck me, that is one shit Liverpool starting 11

If any proof were needed as to what a quilt muncher you are....

  • Fair play, Liverpool played fairly well, and we were poor.

Skrtel now has more assists than Downing I believe.

If Liverpool want to actually get anywhere, they need to raise their game against the likes of Wign, QPR, WBA etc, rather then City, United, Chelsea and Everton. Otherwise they'll be mid-table forever.

Good to see a proper referee do the game today, rather than Stevie G.

    well i never
i was v.nervous going into yesterdays game
    i had in mind a 5-0 drubbing
coming out of the pub yesterday after the game it felt like a great weight had been lifted from my shoulders
after seeing the hearts game on thurs i was expecting more of the same
    we actually played really well
apart from two liverpool howlers we had that game in our pocket
if we can do that every week and find another goal scorer we could be on for a top half finish

    in rodgers i trust

Tell me what difference there was in that game from last year under Kenny and (apart from his final year) Rafa????
Raise game against 'big' team, play good attractive possession based footie only to loose it in a moment of madness? Kenny had L'pool playing just as well but with our 12th man the woodwork.
    Nothing has changed.
    :(

  • maybe a bit of belief
the play / possession was really good
passing improved 100% over hearts / games last season we actually played it amongst ourselves accurately and meaningfully
fewer long hopefull balls from adam and gerrard more patient build up

we have always been able to mix it with the big boys like you say ( see our record against the top 4 finishers over the last 5-6 years ) it wouldn't be too shabby

we just need to make sure our points / draws against west broms and stokes become three points / wins
now i don't know how to do that ... but hopefully rodgers will have an idea

  • we are two proper games and a europa cup qualifier into the season 2/3 have looked bad 1/3 has been very positive not much to drawe on there

lets see how we do against mid table arse and see if we have learnt lessons from last season

lets look back after 10 games and see how we stand then

  • Massive pea from a few pages ago

  • £33m for Modric?! Is it just me or am I the only one to think he's massively overrated?

  • Modric is a good player, but needs to score more goals for me, very creative and technical. 33mil is a lot but then Andy Carol was 35mil ;)

  • ....and £15m better than Jordan Henderson

  • Jaw, Tenderloin!
Now Modric has departed to Real Madrid, I hear talk of us being interested in Shaktar's Wilian. Is he any good? Got to be honest the name is familiar, but I've no idea if he'd be a direct replacement for Modric, or a more attacking string puller.

We're also supposed to be in for M'Vila, which I'm surprised by as I was under the impression he was a more defensive minded midfielder, and we're in the market for someone to link and initiate play.

Sad to see Modric go, he was a player that could receive a ball, with little or no space, create some in the blink of an eye and then make a perceptive pass. All those no nothings who talk about his assist rate/goals scored, needed to see him hold Spurs together, he was the player that made the pass, before the pass, that lead to the goal.

Hope he doesn't regret the move to Real Madrid, it'd be a pity for him to just sit on the bench.

Maybe we can get Kaka, as a replacement. Silver linings and all that.

  • He'll sit on the bench behind Ozil. Also supposed to be in for Hugo Lloris again. We still need a centre half and a striker or two. Heitinga, Dempsey & Willian would be good wrap up to the week.

Kaka will not come to Spurs.

  • @aroogah,
Kaka thing is me dreaming big!

  • Yeah - I know. Still. Dempsey! Fellow Texan and all that.

  • A £30m signing will not sit on the bench at Real Madrid, talk is that Mourinho has pushed hard for the transfer to happen.

Ozil loan is also a result of this and the Xabi Alonso transfer rumours refuse to go away.

As for Willian, haven't seen enough of him to judge him but what I've seen is that he's pretty versatile and can play as a 10 or on the wing, pretty much what Spurs need as there seem little strength in depth.

If Vickery thinks he's a good replacement I'd be quite happy...

  • £33m a long way short of £40m but I think with add-ons etc it's fair to say Spurs have a good deal still. The weekends performance and obvious shortcomings may have forced Levy's hand.

Willian, is one of a number of Brazliians over at Shakhtar (I'm not sure if it's the money, the women or the weather...) himself, Fernandinho and Douglas Costa have created a much vaunted midfield trio. He's a small, technically excellent explosive and powerful player (not unlike nasri, silva or cazorla) - but not one I'd see as a direct replacement for Modric. For me he would be deployed on the wings or behind the strikers - AVB is obviously a fan, as has been much remarked. He is likely to cost about half of the Modric transfer fee I'd guess Shakhtar must realize that this is probably his time to go and have Ilsinho and Dentinho to deputise in his absence. If I were a Spurs fan I'd be pretty excited/happy about that.

I think Damiao deal is dead in the water for three reasons - cost, Internacional wanting to keep him until the end of the Brazillian season and the complications of his actual ownership.

Dembele, Lloris, M'villa, Moutinho, Cabaye, Afellay, James Rodriguez and Hulk are all names I've heard mentioned.

I think three ins would be a likely situation.

  • Modric will play with Ronaldo and Ozil wide of him and Khedira and Alonso behind.

He is the complete technician that the Madrid team has wanted Kaka to be but that it has never gotten.

  • Jaw, Tenderloin,

thank you, your knowledge is always welcome..

I've been reading the comments on this Amy Lawrence piece
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/aug/27/luka-modric-tottenham-real-madrid

and most of them seem to veer between, we was mugged, and got screwed, cause we didn't get the 40mill that Chelsea offered last season (though I'm not sure if this is the actual amount of money on the table), or Levy done good, because he sold Modric overseas and got more than we paid for him.

I didn't want to lose him, but like teams before us, we'll hopefully reinvest in a couple of new players and the team will move onwards. I do know if Levy and AVB stick to their guns, the new players will be young, quick and hungry with some resell value in their future...

  • You may have been offered £40m last year - who knows, but it has to be worth the £7m not to sell to a rival I think that the deal has been done a little late and that in the end Modric's refusal to go anywhere other than Madrid has negated any possibility of a bidding war. Bring in Willian, Mountinho and M'villa and you'll have forgotten his name by November.

This player power that we are seeing more and more, fucking kills me. When a player with 4 years left on his contract gives you no options but to sell, something is going wrong.

  • Tenderloin,

I doubt we'll get all three. Moutinho is probably being priced out of our pockets by Porto. I'm thinking we're looking to pay 10-15mill for players rather than the finance busting 20-30mill..

  • Porto are very savvy operators in the transfer market as well and never let their players leave for anything other than a hefty profit.

It's another complicated third part ownership scenario. Moutinho has almost 40% of his ownership with an investment portfolio - Porto are therefore having to factor this into any deal. I actually think you will get Moutinho and Willian more than the others...
