  • ^ Seatstay caps are similar to my Bob Jackson - lugs are slightly different, but the frame number looks to be a reasonable match.
Is the serial# on the BB?
Mine takes a 27.0 seatpost too - track bikes were often built of sterner stuff than their TT counterparts!!

More photos here - starting from pg 38 of this thread.
    My frame number's 4854 from 1964
and Apolloxl has 4103 from 1960
On the RTTC forum there was a 1973 model at number 9359
Assuming they made roughly 500 per year it is worth investigating whether or not you have a ca. 1966/1967 Bob Jackson

  • Serial no. is on the BB shell, but stamped more centrally than the one's on yours and Apolloxl's. Also the join between seat stays is different, plus the Columbus rather than Campagnolo track ends...

Certainly wouldn't be disappointed if it was a Bob though!

  • Can anyone identify this tandem frame? continental eccentric front hub, larger sized steerer tube.

I picked one up earlier for free, no markings that i can see, original paint is long gone. Under the front bb there is 22 with another 2 stamped centrally bellow that. Came with 60-era sturmey wheels, year stamp lost to rust, but a dyno hub with the bakelite insulator around the contacts, 8 volt.

    Anyone know their tandems?

  • Should probably have also posted the link to the pictures of the bike...

    http://vanscyoc.net/blog/pages/all_photos.html?gallery=Our_Bikes/Tandem_Straight_Bar/

Not of my bike, but the frame is identical.

  • ^ I know nothing of tandems but the lugs on yours look typical of 1930's/1940's frames.
The headset is a Brampton and spares for this are easily obtained as George Longstaff machined a big batch which are now stashed away at the Tandem Club - same goes for bottom bracket sleeves, brake linings and eccentric BB shells and all the other specialist stuff - the tandem club shop can be found here - http://www.tandem-club.org.uk/_clubshop.htm

If you're keen on finding out what it is you've got, your best bet is probably the tandem club forum http://www.tandem-club.org.uk/_dboard.htm

    Hope this helps

  • This is my first post on here, so hello. Wondering if someone can help me identify this frame? I'm not holding out much hope...

when i first got it it was covered in thick powdercoat and you could hardly see the lugs. it also had a reynolds 531 sticker on it but i doubt that means anything, it wasn't even on straight. there are no markings on the frame apart from "gipiemme" on the drop outs.

sorry for the poor pictures and ignore the temporary post clamp bolt!

  • gorgeous frameset! But no clue what it is..

  • It's pretty stunning - Does it have a serial#? if so, what and where - this is usually a good place to start.
What about the seatpost - is it a 27.2?
The seat-lug and fastback seat-stays are rather nice and quite striking - in general the lugwork looks like a 70's British TT bike - perhaps Dave Russell.
I did a quick google image search and came up with this match for your seat lug - https://www.lfgss.com/attachments/53817d1337519120-tt-bike-1.jpg
This was sold here on the forum a while back - https://www.lfgss.com/thread86086.html

cheers guys, I can't find any numbers on it. the underside looks like this, almost like the serial has been removed?

I believe the seatpost is 27.2, i'll check when i'm home. It does look very simular to that one you have posted. thanks for the help.

  • hi folks

could you please help me out with some info about this beautiful track frame?
the only thing i'm sure about is that the tubes are columbus.. (helical reinforcement in the steerer and the dove engraving)

there is absolutely nothing written on it. original paint was white with blue gradients. bb threading is english. it is incredibly light at 1980grs (frame and forks - size is 60 c-c)

    here's the details:

could anyone help me value a coventry eagle supersonic owned by me from new since 1977. shimano 10speed and brakes 58.5cmm frame
    Thanks

  • Which brake levers are those? thanks

  • Tektro RX4.1

  • not sure, but they look really good on those handlebars

  • I like em too and I wanna put them onto my Porteur as well :)
but how did he scrub the branding of Tektro off?!

    THX for the tip

  • picked this off ebay for £35, badly painted black. i would really like some help finding out what model this frame is/more about the builders. i have googled but to no real avail..... besides the very limited Wikipedia info. ATALA pantographed into fork, campag dropouts, italian BB, 27.0 seat-post, fast back seat stay and without a chain stay????

any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have bought this off a couple who shipped it back with their belongings from Japan. They believed it was post-war (1945-50).

Was hoping that somone on here might know a bit more information about it, even just a heads up on the mudguard insignia would be great or on the lamp (it reads 'SPECIAL MAMOL HEAD LAMP' and takes D-CELLS). So far my research has led me to think that it's post-war ex-service but any more insight on dates, manufacturers etc would be great.

Fine wire wool and a drop of cellulose thinners usually works- most of those brands are printed on top of the clear anodising.

    I have an NOS pair of these;

I'm looking for a frame to build up as a city/porteur bike.

  • I used to have a pre-war Humber that had that same twin bladed front fork. Bike got trashed, and I made a lamp from the forks- which I still have.
Mine had a spider made of men holding hands walking round the chainring which was a Humber trademark but I don't think they all had that.

  • Anyone got some info on my frame? I got it off eBay but i've never seen a Dolan like it, I was thinking it could be a GB edition but I tried googling that, and similar things but got no results.

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Nice Bike - the paint job is the same as tommmmmmm's
    (photo here http://www.lfgss.com/post3000614-64007.html)
Maybe he can shed light on whether this is a special livery or not

  • ooooo, interesting. Cheers dude!

  • I remember you getting this in the Ebay thread, I'm afraid I don't know too much about them. I think I am the third forum owner of my bike (of which only the frame is still the same from the previous owner now), but the guy I bought it off didn't know too much about it either. I've been trying ever since I bought it to try and find out a bit more about the provenance of it, but without much luck. Mine is 58cm x 60cm, which is a bit unusual, but the perfect size for me, it's absolutely spot on.

I did find a picture of a similar-looking bike being ridden by Rebecca Romero - Olympic Individual Pursuit Champion in 2008, and World Champion in the same year.

    http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=14928709

The one in the photo, and yours, has a much larger top tube and down tube to mine, I don't know if that's just a sizing thing or whether they're a higher spec. Also the seat tube of the one in the picture looks bigger than both of ours, though it's hard to tell.

I reckon the ones we have are probably replica versions of the one Romero is riding in the above.

I'll try and write something better when I'm not drunk.

Nice build by the way, looks pretty smart. You must be tall, that's a 60cm frame isn't it?

  • Also just found this crashed abomination here:

    http://cdn.velospace.org/files/IMG_4397_2.jpg

    http://velospace.org/node/37261

It looks like this is the 'real' track version rather than the 'replica' version that we seem to have. But seeing as this is catastrophically damaged, and a terrible built to boot, I'm not too jealous.

  • It's nice to know a little more about my bike! Thanks for the information dude. Yeah, i'd much prefer to have either of ours than the above, its awful!

Yeah, mine is a 60cm frame, I was after a new frame when my Tensor snapped, and someone posted this on the Classified page so I thought i'd go for it. Got it for a fairly reasonable price aswel
