There's a French manufacturer who made a lot of 80's early 90's twin tube/split seat tube bikes- blanking on the name right now .. someone will know.

My bike - no idea what it is.
The frame is stamped 783272 on the drop outs.
It used to have two funny metal nipple things to hold a bicycle pump on the top of the down tube but these have been sawn off.
& since you ask the paint job is Hammerite...
Any ideas?

Got myself a new raleigh yesterday, and couldnt beleive my luck when I saw the spec of it! :-D
Its got 531c reynolds tubing with chrome campag dropouts. It seems to have a full nuovo record groupset other than the crankset which is shimano rsx which i guess is a replacement. 3ttt stem, bernard hinault turbo saddle, and really nice bars with a olympic ring logo but cant remember make.
Just wondering if anyone has any info on this bike? what year and does it have a name?
link to the ebay ad. Its definatley not 53cm! more like 58/60 not measured it yet.
cheers!

I don't think you paid too much for it. What a classic mis-sell.

Lots here.
I don't suppose you know where I can see the 1985 catalogue?
-

If only. Mark Bulgier's stuff runs out after '84, and I've not found a source of later catalogues.

Just picked up a Raleigh Ventura and the hubs date it to '85, which ties in with Golden Arrow groupset it has.

What have I got here?
Seller doesn't seem to know too much about it, but it looks interesting, and I think it could look really nice without that revolting and shoddy paint job. Also it's presumably meant to take 27" wheels, is that what's on it now, or could I tighten up those clearances a bit with a 27" wheelset?

^ Interesting bike with a few seriously nice period parts on - headset, and hubs in particular - the hubs look like Airlite - I find the headtube lugs rather pretty - and not a bad price to pay for it either.
To confirm what wheels you have on there check whats written on the tyre walls or engraved in the rim.
Also have a look on the seat lug, bottom bracket, track end and fork steerer to see if you can find a frame serial#
This almost certainly an English frame - start with the major manufacturers and move onto the one-man-bands as you eliminate.
As a starter for 10 I'd say that from where I'm looking, that seat-lug looks a bit carlton-esque
Frame number conventons for carlton can be found here

Hope this helps you along your way.... -

Does it have a serial number on anywhere? I don't have any info on yours I'm afraid, but I also recently acquired a Raleigh 531 frame which I would place mid-eighties, but can't see any stamped number on the bb shell or on the rear triangle (apparently another place where serial numbers were put)
Would be curious to know if yours has a number at all, and if so then where on the bike?

^ From the early Nineties when there were all sorts of franken-bars (and drugs) in the mix.
I'd think you'd be likely to hit yours knees a lot, especially when turning: they didn't catch on for a reason.
Here's Greg Lemond in the 1990 TdF hedging his bets bar-wise:

If you want a name to search for such bars by, they were called scott drop-in
