  • Also (and this may be a long shot)

Is there an app which would allow me to control my PC volume from my phone? As we are currently living without our main TV I use my monitor as the TV when watching DVD's or anything on line and since I don't have a remote for my speakers and sub I don't want to get out of bed to fiddle with the volume.

It would be great to be able to set up a DVD or film then control everything from my phone. Turning off the PC would be awesome but I doubt that's possible. (More 15th Century burning at the stake)

  • They look just like android;

  • In the 15th century, you would have been burned at the stake for that.

Couldn't get married in a church as I am flammable.

  • well my nexus 7 is on it's way back to ebuyer... at least they send a free courier etc... for this all. Hope the replacement is ok (haha who am I kidding, it will probably be fucked)

  • I know it's not exactly what you're after, but if you're on Windows, you can schedule shut downs. My desktop is scheduled to shut down every morning at 02:00 in case I fall asleep watching something, if I leave it on and am away from home for a few days, etc etc. You can just leave it after watching a film or whatever and be happy it will shut down that night.

  • Actually this looks like it could be a winner-

    I use this. it works.

  • According to my Play download history I have used it previously. I don't recall using it. I imagine it was on Cake's recommendation.

  • I've also used a vlc remote app too. that worked.

  • I also used the xbmc web interface. That worked and was particularly rad.

I use the XBMC remote app that mimics the original Xbox remote, as I'm used to it.

  • Are you just trying to do music playback?

    If so... use Squeezebox.

Are you just trying to do video playback... and maybe music once in a blue moon?

    If so... use XBMC.

Both have great servers for any OS, and both have great Android apps to control them.

  • I used to like gmote, there is also a vlc app, but I've not looked at what it does/

  • hmm thanks for the suggestion, worth a shot to see if it works.

  • I use Remote for VLC, works perfectly. Can wake the pc up from standby too which is nice, the only drag is you have to have VLC on top for it to work. Not sure if that's the same for the other apps

Try the Valence app - it should do the job. I've got HippoRemote on my Mac which basically the same and excellent.

  • I'm just about to flash a new rom. If I have everything off the sd card backed up, can I just delete everything on the sd card before I update?

Got loads of old files and folders from a year of use I want shut off, seem to have lost a lot of space.

  • Tempted to root my S2. Not sure why but I tend to get bored.

  • I thought here would be as good a place as any to vent my HTC related woes.

flashed my phone to 4.0 last night (HTC Sensation) anyone on here had to do it?

after pissing around trying to unlock my bootloader with a piece of wire, tapping it in certain timed intervals in a certain pattern in certain points on the back of the phone. I shit you not.

    as per these instructions:

    http://www.techsliver.com/how-to-s-off-root-flash-cwm-recovery-on-htc-sensation-with-hboot-1-27-0000/

compared to a freinds SII, this was rocket science.

got there in the end and loving the new cyanogen, but christ was that difficult.

  • Ha^ That's really wired.

  • Jesus what a faff!!

  • Any suggestions for a cheap phone (I've got a ZTE at the moment so clearly not too fussy) with a decent amount of memory?

Every phone I have I end up running out of space for apps really quickly, even using Titanium Backup to shift all I can to the SD card.

Also, are there any phones out there with a physical keyboard and a decent sized screen, like a Desire Z had?

  • How many blumin apps do you have? I'm no where near there on my s2 yet.

  • Not a massive amount. It shows up as having 162MB of which I've used about 140MB. Once you get a few things like Google Maps, Play Store, Facebook, Kindle, etc at 5 or 10 meg a time it seems to fill up pretty quickly.

  • Root and use the sd card? I never ever filled my HTC Desire after I rooted it.
