I just looked up the price online to go to Tooting Lido. Was rather shocked to see it was £6 for an adult to swim there. Is that pretty standard? I'd like to start going a couple of times a week, but that's going to cost £50+ a month...

I'm keen to get into the pool, but have 4 stitches in my foot- should I wait for these to be removed, or will it be fine?
Latex socks. I was always told they're fine for infection-proofing cuts etc.

think London Fields Lido is a fiver or so with no membership. I've got some yearly thing that's £30ish which takes it down to £3.20. Then there's monthly memberships for £25 or so and you can go as many times as you like

What to wear- having been exposed to the Olympics non-stop it would appear that "jammers" are the thing to wear.
If, that is, you go through the water like a torpedo.
If one turns up to the pool wearing a pair of these but are not hydrazine powered is the shame and scorn palpable?
I have a 10 year old pair of board shorts (red with orange flowers I think) that are probably lurking in a draw which I will wear if so.

All the pros are wearing drag shorts this season for training:

Too late, I bought some UltraTurboReallyJollyFast Skinz Wonder-Jammers for £758.

Googled 'pink jammers'. Will give them a go, but fail to see how they'll make me swim faster.
-
• #1315
That would definitely encourage me to move. But I would never buy one.

I'm probably about 73kg, skinny and just under 6 foot, and am happy to give away my old wetsuit. It does have a couple of holes (esp a tear in the leg, still usable, but I'd chop it near the top of the calf). PM me if you want it. It's an entry level BlueSeventy, was about £180 new. Didn't use it much apart from racing.
I'm doing my first fixed IM in a few weeks - just bring the bike in s/s, then flip the hub in transition.
Just tried this one for size- great day to try on a wet suit- they are quite hot, who knew?
Anyway, my stick like legs went in ok, my vast, pendulous gut sucked in well, chicken like arms were good- but that's where we stopped.
Exactly how close to "fuck, this is going to tear" do you go when attempting to do up the second half of the zip?
-

Keep working the arms until the suit's as far up the shoulders as possible, arch your back pushing the shoulder blades together and pull directly upwards. I was always able to get the zip up ok, but you may be a bit broader. Give it a tug and hope for a happy ending, but it's always better if you can get someone else to tug it for you.

• #1321
A lot of that goes without saying, or you go blind.
However, I am concerned that I am going to rupture it.
-
• #1322
It will be fine. Mine is stupendously tight and I haven't ripped it
yet

Well done sir.

Someone needs to get in some cold water.
btw, anyone doing a secret swim tonight?
-

If I could get in my wetsuit I'd be right there
Stay out of the water until the stitches are out.
