the next big change was the crankset. as there aren't many options for an all-black track crank (i don't wanted to have a road crank either if they are lighter), i decided to buy the sram truvativ omnium (170mm, 825g). light, stiff and lighter than the miche pista. in parallel i looked for a cheap and light carbon seatpost and bought one from rose (195g). they have a line that is calling "xtreme". i don't like the look of their logos but the price/weight-relation is quite good, so i just taped some black tape over the labels. as the tires were also well used and as i saw how much weight you can save with new tires i bought the same combination as i rode on my road bike - 23' continental attack for the front and 24' continental force for the rear.
stage 2: done.
current weight: 6.82kg

Not really a fan of the Dolans, but that actually looks pretty good, even the black and blue together.

thats really nice! did you by any chance colour in the green headset with a black pen? ;)

This is just not speculative enough for me.

ok, how can i save more weight without spending too much euros?
i always looked how much my current parts were weighing and what can i save, but never forget that it should be still ridable with my 93kg and also should be realistic in price dimensions. i know that there are still parts that could be lighter, but then i had to spend quite a lot of money which i won't. and i also don't wanted to change some parts as i still love and feeling comfortable with them (handlebar, brake lever, pedal system).
i bought new pedals (shimano xtr, 310g) and a new brake (planet x ultra light forged, 225g for the pair).
as i saw that the scale was lighter, but the steps were going slowly, i decided to look for a light carbon clincher front wheel. often the offers were for carbon clinchers with alu-brake rims and i hate the look of it. full carbon track clinchers new were too expensive, used ones too seldom. at the end a well priced full carbon tubular wheel popped up and so i bought a fast forward f5r tubular carbon wheel (870g with an inflated tire). as it has carbon brake rims i had to buy some carbon brake pads too (SwissStop Full FlashPro Yellow King).
stage 3: done.
current weight: 6.46kg - i was impressed

strip the paint, dov told me he lopped off 300g on his bike doing that.

then it was time to cut the fork a bit as i was bored of too much of spacers (carbon). i also had a new black headset (fsa orbit ce plus) and a new stem (kcnc sc wing, 109g, inspired by the other ww-thread) on the way back from my bike mechanic i had a puncture in the front wheel and had to walk 3km at home. i started to hate tubular tires for riding in the city and as i arrived at home i decided to sell the front wheel. additionally the fucking carbon brake system was a fucking noise, so i came back to riding brakeless while having a front brake. as the gear ratio was still 48/18 which i had used for the last 2 years for all my fixed touring and especially loved on the way to barcelona, but after getting bored of fixed touring since i bought my road bike, i switched to 48/17.
stage 4: kind of a step back.
current weight: 6.67kg

Been really inspired after reading the epic novel of the other thread, absolutely loving the Seta after not really liking Dolans. Think I might be tempted to buy one very soon...

as no one wanted to buy the front wheel for the price that i wanted i decided to give him a second chance. so i bought a new tire and glued it. after some more miles and weeks i realised that i would love to have more bank i cutted the fork again and from now on no more spacers were needed. it looked so much better and i love the big bank. it also fits me more, which i had never thought of it (carbon fork with alloy tube: 390g).
stage 5: done.
current weight: 6.38kg

Eingang, I used a can of Vittoria Pitstop when I punctured a tub- I have to admit to thinking that I was wasting my time when using it, but it worked exactly as advertised.
Shot it into the tyre, held my finger over the hole where the latex boiled out, waited, then pumped the tyre up to fulll operating pressure and cycled off again.
It's been 100% fine since then as well- hasn't lost pressure any faster than the other tyre.
For longer rides I carry a spare pre-glued tub.
Anyway- great to see your project all in the same place.

two week ago i decided to order a lighter front quick release skewer. the lightest i could found was the tune u 20. but they are currently not available in black and only for the front wheel at the german distributor and i don't wanted an unknown time i changed my order to a tune dc 14 (16g). it arrived 2 days ago and looks really slim.
now there's only one big thing i'm thinking forth and back thousand of times every second day - the rear wheel. i meanwhile know which rims are the lightest, which hubs, how much spokes and nipples weigh and so on. i had a wheel in my head but a friend of mine, who is a professional wheel-builder since ages, advised me something different as i'm too heavy. additionally the waiting and communiction with mack hubs is flagging, so i'm not really motivated to change the rear (990g only the wheel). i will see how long i'm riding the tub in the front and if i decide to go back to normal clincher wheels my idea will be mack superlight low flange hubs with velocity aerohead (front 24h/rear 28h).
i love this project, i love the seta and i know that it's possible to go below 6kg, but i'm happy with 6.38kg too. it still looks great and is still ridable for a tall and heavy guy like me.
stage 6: open.

yes i did that, but you can still see the bad outcome on the first pictures.
now it's gone.strip the paint, dov told me he lopped off 300g on his bike doing that.
as my road bike has an all-black frame and as i started to like the blue/black-combination i won't strip it.

i know it, it's just that i every time forget to buy one :)

I've just added a boat load of weight to my bike- 6.75kg.
When I put the computer on it's 6.82, I suppose at least it's legal now for all the UCI events that I contest.
Oh, wait..

Eingang have you looked at the American classic track hubs for the rear wheel? They are very light (lighter than Mack) and pretty smooth too. I've been running one for about a year now and Im very pleased with it.

I run the AC aero 420s and theyre amazing to ride on. Smooth as butter and light for a OTP track wheelset.

great wheelset for the track
as i already said in the "fixed super light super safe"-thread it's time to open another thread for a fixed weight weenie bike. but this time with pictures, an existing bike which is already be ridden and a bike which has a real progress.
it all started with selling my dodici special. after nearly 4.000km i realised that the top tube is a bit too long and that i can't see the curved seat tube anymore. i had, like often before, a look around the net and all posibilities of otp-frames. at the end i had the look 464 al p and the dolan seta on my list and started looking for second hand frames. i opened a wtb-thread in the classifieds and a few minutes later i got a reply that said that someone already opened a dolan seta for sale-thread. it was my size, but i always wanted an all black dolan seta. after realising how hard it would be to find a second hand one in my size and in all black i decided to buy the blue/black one. it was nearly new, only ridden a few times, only 2 little nicks and the price was fine too.
at this moment i don't wanted to invest too much in this project so i just changed all the parts from the dodici to the dolan. get a free green (!) headset from a friend of mine and the seatpost was included in the sale.
as i had bought the carbon saddle only a few weeks ago before i decided to sell the dodici, a hilarious idea came up. how would it be to save more weight? the frame was light (1.14kg), the saddle too (99g), the 3t seatpost felt light, so a good start for this project.
stage 1: done.
current weight: don't really know, forgot to write it down, but appr. 7.3kg
(as i'm not a native speaker please forgive me any mistakes in grammar, explaining or not using the right words)
UPDATE 2013: I'm not longer interested to build up a lightweight fixed bike, therefore I rebuild the bike into a carbon slave bike.
