also, if you have the statement, it can go to your solicitor straight away, which can mean that they don't have to wait for the police file. My latest case is not going to be heard until September now, which may well mean that the insurance company don't pay out until at least December

keep receipts for all costs incurred - such as travel while the bike is out of action, painkillers, bike assessment, repairs etc etc

It's probably included somewhere in the other thread, but what is the reason for getting a solicitor right away?

Good luck Extra
Sorry if repost. Just saw this letter from British Cycling requesting for a review of the criminal system to protect vulnerable road users.

I just got driven off the road by an irate black cab driver at Oval.
Even though I was going faster than the speed of traffic in the main carriage way, he wanted me out of the bus lane.
I have never screamed so loud.
Once mounted, I tore off after him finally catching up with him in Pimlico where I got a photo of his reg plate.
Going to report it now. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

I reported an incident where a van hit me from behind at a red light, swore and yelled at me and drove off, refusing to give his details. I have a picture of the van, the reg and a description of the driver. I filled in the police form - very, very short as it was just the hit-and-run section. Can I expect any contact from police, or will this just be filed under C for can't-be-arsed?

No damage to me, but a slightly buckled rear wheel.
-
• #1791
Was that a police form at a local station?
Have you reported it to RoadSafe too?
-
• #1792
The bad man have touched you.
Attempt assault + hit and run.
-
• #1793
I didn't report to Roadsafe, no - doesn't it say it's not for cases where there's contact? Although I've reported contact cases before... I'll do that too.
-
• #1794
I'm kind of expecting nothing from this, to be honest.

I've reported mine as a 'Cycling "near miss"' as I wasn't physically hurt.
My heart is still going at double speed.

Something similar happened to me a couple of years back, except my driver was not as angry as yours and no damage to my bike, but still there were contact. When did you report it? I received a few weeks after reporting mine informing me there were investigating it, and there was a named officer I could get in touch if I wanted to. About 6 months later (from the date of the incident), I got another letter from the police informing me the driver has been prosecuted for failed to leave driver's details and he was fined £450 and 6 points off his license. I was also given the driver's personal details shall I want to sue him for damage through the civil route. So I would say you will hear something from them soon and if not, it'd be worth chasing it up.

I just spoke to Oliver this morning and he is on my case about my hit last night, he sounded a real gent and very helpful!

It sounds as if you did everything right at the scene of the crash, ExTra, and couldn't have done more. Glad to hear you're in good hands. Best of luck with pursuing it.

Perhaps when they got in touch with the driver they just admitted it? I'd imagine that if they dispute the version I put forward the police would see it all as too much bother to prosecute. Although there's bound to be CCTV in the area somewhere. We'll see. I reported it last week some time.
Thanks mate, will give him a shout in the morning, maybe a but late to call right now...
