• Astonishingly cuntish driving of the highest order on the way home this evening.

Just after 8pm I was approaching this junction at the SE corner of Regent's Park (heading North, so on the left obviously). Looked over my shoulder at the car behind and with plenty of time, moved out into primary to discourage him from passing me through the bollards. Then noticed him start to accelerate rather too aggressively around my right hand side. Realising there was no way we were both gonna fit through the gap, I was about to bail to the left sharpish, but need not have worried as the utter twat floored it iin second gear and went round the right of both sets of bollards.

Unfortunately I didn't get his plates (not that much would've come of reporting it) but fortunately he was long gone by the time I got to Parkway otherwise there could well have been something worth reporting.

Swap the vehicles round and I do it almost every working day.

Queue of stationary or slow moving traffic, I over take and if the cars are near bollards and nothing is coming in the other direction...

Really sounds like he was miles away from you, was there traffic coming in the other direction?

  • So do I, but I fail to see the relevance. The two aren't even remotely comparable.

He accelerated towards 40mph, through a junction and around two sets of bollards on the wrong side of the road, and you're seriously suggesting it's not that big a deal because there wasn't anything coming in the other direction?

  • So driver on residential road in islington speeds through road narrowing and hits the 'road calming' metal bell (See pic 1.) Then flips over and breakes his car (Pic 2/3).

    Silly bell...

They are comparable, I just compared them.

Obviously the car is worse. But the implied fear was that he was going to run you over, and instead he went to the other side of the road... Which would you prefer?!

(obviously the third option of waiting behind is beter, but in this comparison I choose to filter on the wrong side of the road over waiting behind cars so I can see his thought process, even if I don't like what he did)

Don't take me too seriously by the way.

  • Had this ass-hat tail-gating and beeping his horn at me this morning. Although I was in primary position in one of four lanes, he clearly wanted all of the lanez!

He told me to 'get off the roads'.

  • Got the company name? license?

write a polite email to the company that this person is giving them a bad name for bad driving.

    cannot emphasised politeness.

  • Looks like a rental to me.

  • Good point, then they're invalided as they can do whatever they want (as well as unnamed lorry) sadly.

  • Yeah, was Enterprise Rent-a-car unfortunately.

  • It's sometimes worth telling the hire companies. They don't much like hiring their vans/cars out to people that they feel might cause them work (following an collision etc), and will sometimes ban the people from hiring from them, or charge them a higher rate, or force them to take out extra insurance.

Of course, to tell them, you'd need his plates...

  • Looks like a mental to me.

    Yeah, there's something about him.

  • Well than, it's up to you if you want to bother or not. I'd keep the letter email short and polite if you do though :)

  • Just sent their customer service a quick email. Reckon it was worth it for a couple of mins of my time, thanks!

  • Can a dev please make a Roadsafe app for quick reporting? I often have encounters with dickheads (it's what I get for commuting through WC1 I suppose) but by the time I get to work I can never be bothered to sit down and do it.

  • This is a good idea!

  • It's never a good idea to come to a full stop on the middle of the lane for a prolonged period of time, no matter how much of an idiot that individual in the vehicle was.

If someone honked, just acknowledge them and carry on riding.

  • Yeah, I do agree. Nevertheless the driver was displaying the familiar behaviour that cyclists shouldn't be in the road at all.

ah, yeah apparently they "have been made aware of an incident concerning a cyclist and an Atkinson McLeod car" and "have taken appropriate action today".

  • Interesting topic. Noted and bookmarked. I stopped commuting for a longtime due to a few real close incidents with drivers here in Manchester. Including one using his JCB bucket to guide me more into the double yellows as 'you were taking too much road up mate' and the food delivery truck driver driving in dark sunglasses on a winters morning who squeezed a female cyclist onto the kerb after I'd literally just hopped onto the pavement to avoid the same. I reported him to his employers expecting nothing to come of it - they rang me back numerous times taking my call very seriously.
