  • Trust me you need black, forget that stem you are getting.

Black stem & black headset FTW.

If you get the bike painted black (not saying you should), it will look better with the current tyres.

  • Haha, I understand.
Stem I'm getting is a 3ttt pro chrome, which I'm really fond of.

Will get a thomson elite stem (silver) in the future.

I like all black bikes, but it's not my style, A bit colour isn't bad.

  • Cheap ebay find CK headset fitted, fixieskidder cockpit complete.
Just waiting for some levers so I can tape up the Deda drops and complete the longer distance cockpit.
    Full pics soon...

  • Nice, black CK set is also on my list.

  • ^^Okay, this is a fixedgear forum though, we're hip.

Read: 5 years behind being hip.

  • ^^thanks, 2nd hand CK usually go for around £50... this was £31 and in almost new condition. just got lucky I suppose...

  • I love photos of all the bits of a bike laid out like that. Looks promising!

I'm a bit annoyed with my touring frame - the canti studs were brazed on when it was repainted by a framebuilder. Strangely the distance between the studs is very different between the front and the rear. I rode the frame a couple of times with a long-drop caliper and road rims/tyres so I didn't notice anything strange, but now I've found some cantis and

    The rear:

75mm between the studs - buckets of room for massive tyres.

    The front:

47mm between the studs... and only 24mm between the narrowest points of the spring mounts. I could barely scrape a wide touring rim through the gap between the spring mounts, and I'd have to deflate the tyre completely to get the wheel in. MAFAC cantis won't work at all with these studs (photo should make that obvious), neither will the low-profile Shimano cantis I pinched off my MTB... I don't know what would work. I'm going to see a framebuilder tomorrow and see what he thinks... might be cheaper to find some new forks; they'll need repainting in either case, so maybe even a new frame.

Why would anyone do this? Fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Bit of a guess, but are the bosses on the fork meant for centre-pull brakes rather than canti brakes?

And if you do sell the mafacs, I could do with a pair - for an old gazelle cx project?

  • ^^thanks, 2nd hand CK usually go for around £50... this was £31 and in almost new condition. just got lucky I suppose...

Really lucky! Too bad I need a 1 inch threaded. Got a 1 inch threadless in purple.

  • Anyone in Coleford, Gloucestershire that could collect and post an item for me?

Trying to convince a ebay seller to post....

    bump?

  • Bit of a guess, but are the bosses on the fork meant for centre-pull brakes rather than canti brakes?

Naw, centrepulls almost always mount via the brake hole in the fork crown. You do very occasionally see converted centrepulls mounted on studs, but only on super-duper-trick custom frames, and for this to work they mount the studs higher than the rim; on my frame they are lower.

Unless... frame-mounted centrepull set up for 26" wheels?

Anyway, I spoke to Lee Cooper and he'll charge £30 to put new ones on in the right place. I'm going to see him soon.

  • And with some gummwall tyres it became this:

What are those tyres, please? I've barely ridden my new Sunday best ride and already thinking of changing out the gumwalls for white walls. Yes/no?? (Such a tart...)

  • don't bother it looks great as it does! just ride it, its begging.

  • Keep em, looks better with the steel.
Get out there and break it in! :p

  • Picked up this yesterday from a friendly 73 yr old who took me on a tour of his other bikes and tandems while regaling with stories of yesteryear.

  • ^was that on flea bay recently?

  • Yes. Badly listed though.

  • Good work, I had my eye on that but forgot about it.

  • I almost considered nerging aplloxl, nutsjesmoar, and Roolbg out of sheer jealousy, then decided to get my zen on and rep'd em instead and added in PhilPub just for good measure as his Cooper is still one of the nicest bikes on here!

nutsjesmoar, a quick tip, if you want cheap DA and don't mind second hand, check out fleabay as there'es quite often NJS DA cranks and rings going for loads cheaper, picked my cranks and ring up for under £100 posted from japan, hand sanded and polished em and they look awesome.

  • nutsjesmoar, totally agree with the others too, needs a deep section rear in black.

H plus Son Formation, or maybe even the F30, should do it nicely, would look totally badass on that frame with risers!

  • ^^haha!

  • I'm putting off buying the final bits for my build, because we may be getting cycle to work...

Also I need Lizard skin bartape and nokon cables..right?

  • And with some gummwall tyres it became this:

Love how someone in Friesland (?) is now representing Eindhoven.

  • In a little village in Friesland haha

  • 1500 population :P

  • ^ and Amsterdam (spokecard)
