  • Constantly getting the "Slow Script" message in Safari tonight. It's doing my head in. Getting it on every site I visit and within fraction of second of clicking link or button press etc.

    How do I get rid???

  • If it's on every site you visit, restart Safari and download Chrome.

  • ^ha

  • Trufax. Safari is shit.

  • Sup. My Macbook has developed a bulge on its base so i'm getting the free bottom case sent to me in the post.

I'm upping the RAM as well, may as well while the cover is off.

I'm running OS 10.6.8 at the mo (its a 2.26GHz Intel core 2 Duo Macbook from 2009).
Should I bother upping the OS as well? Or it likely to just make we want to buy a new computer, cos it'll be slow and klunky on this old thing.

  • Best upgrade to that would be an SSD and RAM.

It would easily accommodate Lion & the new Mountain Lion update with both upgrades.

If not, the new MacBooks are due for launch in a week or two so stay tuned....

  • Cool. I'll pop in the new base and the new RAM and cool the jets on an OS.

  • I would recommend a SSD, popped one in my home Mini and it's now faster on most things that I notice than my work maxed out 27inch iMac...

  • Does anyone else get a line appear when scrolling on an iPad when zoomed right in?

  • Nope

  • anyone have a Li-ion 15" M.B.Pro Model A1175 10.8V battery?

    this one (not mine)

Mine holds its charge about 2 minutes then dies

  • Can someone please help me, my mouse seems to have gone crazy and I'm going slightly desperate.

I'm currently away working in Indonesia and for the last 3 weeks have had zero access to my computer at all (it's been in it's case with silica, in a dry bag, in a plastic box) but yesterday I logged onto starbucks wifi and after a short period of normality, my mouse appeared to take on a mind of it's own. it's movement was erratic and often involved clicking, right clicking and dragging as well as toggling the "cmd+tab" menu randomly. My first thought was that someone was inside my computer so I force shut down ASAP. I tried again later from my hotel wired connection and again after a period of normal function it went crazy. I force shut down and then tried without internet connection (unplugged, airport turned off) and the same again… This leads me to believe that my trackpad is broken and reassures me that I don't have an invader.

My computer is an approximately 3 year old macbook pro running snow leopard and I've only just been able to get sophos to run a manual check but no viruses yet.

I'm making a short return visit to the UK in a few weeks but REALLY cannot afford not to be able to work during those weeks. It's taken me an hour to write this message (using text edit) as the mouse keeps fucking things up - it's also already removed most of the icons from my menu bar at the bottom and resized all my icons. Slightly frantic.

    A) is this a recognised problem?
    B) What can I do about it? No authorised mac dealers around (there may be one in Jakarta but I'm in working in a reasonably remote forest and the nearest town is Balikpapan, where I am now).

oh the only other thing (almost certainly not) worth mentioning is that yesterday, just before the trouble started I bought a new mac pawer adaptor as I left mine in the forest camp. But, while I tried using it in the shop the problems started while I was working on battery before using the charger properly. Anyway I cant see any mechanism that might cause a link.

  • Is there a hair in the laser part under the mouse?

Ignoring the clicking, erratic movement can all be explained by thing like a small hair or dust in the laser.

Or do you mean the trackpad?

In which case it can be explained by a loose connection to the mainboard. Easily explained by being knocked during shippnig. You may be able to service that yourself, but most likely it's a genius bar visit for you.

  • Ask for Firas if you're there. friend of mine, knows his shit, very helpful.

  • Trackpad I'm afraid. Would buying an external mouse help? It would need to override the trackpad, or I'd need to be able to disable it? Is this possible? No chance of a genius centre till I'm back in the ukn I could try one of the million stores here but difficult to know who (if any) to trust.

As for Firas, how should I spot him amongst the other half million in town? :)

Now using my UK HTC as a partial solution.

  • In theory, if you plug in a mouse it should disable the touchpad thing.

Although if that's not true there is a setting somewhere to toggle that behaviour.

This looks like someone has the same problem... some versions of OS X don't allow you to disable the touchpad, but upgrading would.

  • Awesome thanks, I just bought a Bluetooth logitec mouse and will try it later. If it works I'll defo owe the forum another beer (already at least one in debt). Fingers crossed. Best forum on the interweb.

Now I just have to hope tomorrows blood tests reveal that I don't have malaria (just extreme fatigue). And hope the cut that I had 6 stitches removed from yesterday doesn't continue to reopen. Whoever told me a PhD was easy clearly never did fieldwork.

Incidentally, no one knows the Indonesian for "wound closure strips" do they? #wrongthread

  • Bit late as it seems to be answered, but I had a similar problem in a(n admittedly not mac) laptop and it was caused by the case flexing, in my searches for information I'm pretty sure I found some of the older macs had the same problem.

Meh, I did nothing and it's stopped.

Safari is the fastest browser I've used, admittedly that might be because I've tried Chrome etc on other computers not my iMac but if it ain't broke...

Which I suppose Safari was, but it's fixed (for) now.

  • WAHOO... new mouse seems to be working well (almost too well - very sensitive), and trackpad disabled, thanks VB!

Also thanks to my department IT guy who replied within half an hour with 2 helpful messages despite it being Sunday and jubilee weekend.

His messages are quoted below in case they prove useful to anyone in the future:

Hey dude, that sounds really bad. You do seem to have ruled out having an invader (though if it starts looking like it's trying to enter commands into the terminal or change preferences, that is a real worry). The trackpads do appear to be prone to problems; the touchpad on my macbook doesn't respond to clicks anymore had has to be tapped instead.

    I'd suggest trying the following:

First, try resetting the PRAM. This involves having the computer off, then turning it on and pressing CMD + OPTION + P + R together after the chime, and holding them until it chimes again. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

If this doesn't help, you'll need an external USB mouse - plug that in and then try to find the option to ignore the trackpad when an external mouse is connected. For me it's in system preferences, universal access, mouse and trackpad, trackpad options - but for you it may be in system preferences, keyboard and mouse

You could also try cleaning the trackpad (use a paper towel or soft cloth that's slightly damp with clean water and detergent).

^ I haven't tried this as I got the new mouse working first, but might give it a go if the problem persists. No idea what a pram is though...

    Oh, also check out

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1449

Moisture (ie humidity) can freak it, and they do mention third-party power supplies as possibly being an issue :/

  • Ok so I have an iPad now... What apps should I get?

Also what's the best case for it? /notamurtle31

  • Hello Mac experts.

Briefest question but need a quick response from those experienced in the Macbook +external monitor arrangement

Employer has asked me to come up with Macbook Pro + monitor suggestions. Avoiding the Thunderbolt display, what would be a good 20-27 inch monitor?

    Thanks all
