I have a Macbook thats about 2 years old and is running 10.6.8. Would it be worth my while to upgrade to an SSD as I've read a few things regarding this? If so what is the best way to go about this?

Find a friendly IT guy and get them to chuck it in for ya... only problem is storage... -

Definitely - I have a black macbook (2006 vintage) which was running 10.5.8 and generally feeling a bit lacklustre. Installed a 256GB SSD (very simple to do yourself, but if not confident there are places to get it done) and even though the macbook only has SATA 1 connection, it now flies. Really would recommend if you want to breathe life into an old machine. I will at some point soon get rid of my optical drive and put an old HDD in there, but I'm still finding excuses to keep it.....

Don't bother with anything less than D3O (impact protection material) for a case:

I've got the leather portfolio case and it's brilliant. Best case I've seen on the market. If you use the code FB0021 it should knock 30% off.

Just downloaded the ios6 preview... a bit underwhelming for a whole 'number jump' to be honest.
The do not disturb thing is nice, as is hang up a call / send a text instead - but nothings really changed. It just looks a bit too familiar.
Runs nice though.

There seems to have been a bit of an uproar about the totally underwhelming Mac Pro update. Its not much of an update at all really.
There's an alleged email from Tim Cook on macrumours that hints they're working on something big. Let's hope, it'd be a real shame to kill off that line just because they don't sell them in the millions.
The current (if you can call it that) model has pretty much gone unchanged for two years now, leading some to think it was being discontinued a la x-serve & 17" macbook.iOS is looking a bit too familiar these days but it would totally go against its purpose to futz about with the UI which apple has to commit to now.
That's what I like about android, Google aren't too fussy about changing the look of it, within reason. iOS looks almost exactly the same as it did in 2008, although it does have wallpapers now... -

any recommendations for free non-subscription radio on the ipad?
-
• #3266

^^ I don't mean they should start moving shit about, but I dunno, just something... innovative.
I'm sick of being underwhelmed by everything apple announce these days. Shame.

Whats the problem with storage?
Sorry, just meant SSD's are always lower capacity...

I suspect the biggest reason is that Android don't have a standard user interface like Windows or Macintosh does, having only been around for a short amount of time.
A good thing netherless to not follow the conventional wisdom of what make an operation system.

hi guys
i need to upgrade the capacity on my macbook pro (got it may 2010), and it's 250 gb at the mo. i am thinking ssd but they are ££££ what are the hybrid ssd drives like? should i just spend the extra on full ssd? i mainly use iphoto and garageband, so i am thinking ssd maybe ott, but i like having fewer moving parts. it's the 13" intel core 2 duo 2.4 ghz model.
i am looking for at least 500 gb, what do you think the best value is going to be?
cheers

Get a reasonable sized SSD (128?) then an external 1-2tb?
-
• #3273
