  • You're nicking our royal 'we', or, more precisely, our royal 'our'.

  • You have not read this thread.

The last two pages put me off.

I have said, that the stability of this monarch's reign has been a very attractive feature, and a large part of my admiration.

it is an attractive feature, but it is a feture of this individual not royal rule in general.

    There can only be one.

I'm a MacLeod... Amongst other things.

  • No I'm not - 'our road' refers to mine and my neighbours' road. It would be wrong not to use a plural possessive pronoun, selfish too :P

  • Abraham Lincoln? Thomas Jefferson? Nelson Mandela? etc.

    Chirac, Wulff, Museveni.

  • One is not amused.

Actually I think you will find that it is One who is not amused

  • This thread has gone back to being civil, .....just as it was originally. The same disagreements are there, but its much better now.

  • Actually I think you will find that it is One who is not amused

    Fixed.

  • All is as it should be my humble subjects, you have done well in fixing this thread and only a very few will suffer at the hands of my secret police.

  • Chirac, Wulff, Museveni.

Ignoring the fact I asked for general advantages not pros and cons based on individuals, it's always problematic to use politicians in arguments against royalty, when those politicians are in governments where it's acceptable to make your family heads of departments.

Also all those financial scandals together (which happened over a number of years) were cheaper than the money going to the Queen each year...

Also they each show how politicians are able to be brought to justice for mistakes they make, something that by definition will never happen to royals.

  • Are you restless my subject? Do you feel that our great system of hierarchical nepotism has left you at a disadvantage?

  • I must admit I don't.

I'm proud of our system of government and consider the way it works to be better than a lot of other countries, the way it works isn't entirely due to what is written in law.

And as long as you and your progeny don't try to actually wield any power, I am happy for you to stay.

If I were to hear of a royal interfering with governance though I would be the first to the palace with a pitchfork (well probably a home made weapon)

  • Jubilees have their roots in Ancient Egypt, where as a Pharoah one had to prove one was still fit to reign over the subjects by parading the country every thirty years and at the same time it was intended to reinforce the Pharaoh's divine powers and religious leadership.
As the Euro monarchs believe they are related to the Pharoahs (and beyond) it really is not a British tradition in any way. One only has to look at the flag of England to realise it is exactly the same as the flag of Ancient Egypt.
Personally I would be more interested in celebrating the life of someone who fosters difficult children or a youth worker who makes a difference instead of a parasitical family that has been sucking from all of us through the the completely invented 'Divine Right of Kings,' but what normal person would want that kind of adulation anyway?

  • God I miss tags.

Tried to read the first page, it's pretty dull except for this by the ever genius luci:

If you fold and Balki in a tricky way, it looks like he has a doodle in his mouth. Its really quite hilarious.

  • One has resisted meddeling directley in affairs of state, however One's shadier buisness is always hidden from public view as it simply would not do to be seen with One's hand on the tiller, rest assured Our influence is great.
The little shit Cameron has been a very naughty boy, and when We see his parents there will not be any honnours. [One feels surprisingly liberated by the Interweb, so much freedom of speach]

  • One has to dash, corgis need worming and I have a pressing engagement with a certain Mr Kitchen.

  • I'm certain I don't like the mental image of you with your hand on a naughty Cameron's tiller.

Although it would defo be an affair of state.

  • This thread definitely needed more Ramon.

  • tynan's back I see.

    I couldn't agree more:

  • You might remember when everyone was bashing Lewis Hamilton on the F1 thread........except me,
a couple of years ago. I didn't back down then did I?

If I believe in something...............I just do.

Stubborn AND wrong. I'm in awe...

  • Stubborn AND wrong. I'm in awe...

For there to be a wrong, there has to be a right. So, which is right, Capitalism or Communism? Which driver is bad, Hamilton or Schumacher? Which driver is best, Kimi or Vettel?

Its all subjective, therefore there cannot be a simple right or wrong. Stubborn, yes, I certainly can be. But wrong, not on this, nor in F1. Its subjective, so its impossible to say one is wrong.

  • I am confused, are you a royalist communist?

  • tynan's back I see.

tynan would never spell speech 'speach'
