I was looking at some bars in there once and when I asked the guy what clamp size they were he just sneered at me for a minute and called me a fucking idiot, and then he stabbed my grandma.

• #378
so, it was oversize?

So much like any shop, it sounds like you can get unlucky with particular members of staff. Overall I've never had any troubles at all with them in store or on line. Never been unfortunate to encounter a mardy desk jockey.
You can get unlucky, tynan occasionally poses as a member of staff there.

So do the staff!

most of the time it's the idiotic customer who's not done any research, who's looking for the full njs build for $23.50, and hasn't got a clue what they are talking about who wind up the shopkeeper or the shop keepers assistant thus resulting in the slightly surly attitude mentioned above
try not to go in with a superior attitude and you might get some better service from said shopkeeper ... i usually find

this
many people complain about BLB, I've never meet a surly person in there who has told me to fuck off or tried to sell me crap for top dollar
i treat them with the respect i'd expect to be treated with and it seems to work for me ?

I've bought plenty of bits and pieces from TFG and they have always been friendly and helpful when needed.
I realise that retail can be a difficult business and they will never be able to please all the people all the time, but they have always tried their best whenever I have been there.
I will happily continue to spend money with them.

Been in twice. No issues both times, the guy downstairs seemed willing to help me find what I needed. The hip-tastic dude upstairs seemed a bit surly, mind.
-
• #385
I sent my mum in there to get me brake blocks, she left the store with my new 10 year old foster brother. Surly we call him.
Ha! Excellent.

TFG is probably my fav out of the fixed gear specific shops - I don't go in there too often but when I do it's been fine, substantially better than 2 of the other notable shops of that genre. As far as bike shops as a whole go they're not quite up there with condor but they're going in the right direction for me.

Never been thrilled by the selection of gear in Condor. I go in, I look, I leave without buying anything. It's really aimed at the testosterone-roadie (and wannabe) market.
-
• #388
^What is wrong with you man?
The stuff in condor makes me hottt
-
• #389
I've found BLB are really rude. Didn't give me the time of day. TFG on the other hand were super helpful for the most part, Mark in particular was incredibly helpful. But I have to say, I was served by someone very young, maybe the '10 year old virgin' as mentioned above and I found his service less than stellar. Excluding him though, probably my favourite bike shop.

Condor ALWAYS has the tools that I can't find anywhere else. ALL the staff are always extremely helpful and I've never had any issues with them at all. They removed a bottom bracket for me with no charge and no queue, allowed me to return stuff that I'd removed from the card and always with a smile.
Granted, there are always a truck-load of "all the gear no idea merchants" being accomodated, but even if you're not 100% certain what it is you're looking for they always make time. And their Clif Bar deals are great.

Wowzah!
Just lookin through the forum and seemed to have stirred up a few emotions on this thread!1x what a cunt
1x harden the fuck up
1x idiotic customer that didn't do research!Jesus, lame or what.
I got crappy service from the bloke upstairs.
Some might find that the "face of the shop"?
I've got some bits in the past from downstairs and it's been ok. (apart from when they didn't have any 700cc inner tubes in stock!!!)It's no biggie. IMHO I thought service was shitty.
As I gather from some of the more evangelical replies to my (if I say so myself witty but dull) original post. Its just too much to bare for some of you folks TOTM?Diddums
It's all about the tribes folks. Condor vs tfg. Both cater to their own market. So labling one "all the gear but no idea" over the other is a bit hypocritical.
Mamil vs hipster??But good service - I know where ill go...
In my honest opinion...

It would be nice if Japanese standards of politeness were practised in every bike shop.
http://kimallen.sheepdogdesign.net/Japanese/polite.html
It would make going to Tokyo Fixed rather complicated, though. :)

I don't know why but I like you Monkeyspaw.

• #397
Then you should be nicer to him when he comes back up from the basement.

Jammy and Co didn't bat an eyelid when i tripped over my words and asked for a 'quim' stem a while back (true story)
that's service!
-
• #399
No it isn't. Good service would have been to have provided you with a Quim Stem.
