  • Do any bikes made with Reynolds 531 take a 26.4mm seatpost?

    .

  • Google brings up a lot of helpful looking stuff. As you know more info about the frame in question you should be able to make the search easier - https://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=531+seatpost+sizes&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gl=uk

More likely 26.6 for plain guage 531 seat tube, but 531 has been produced in so many variations that there might be some with seat tubes made for 26.4 posts.

  • Perks says a lot of framebuilders who did not pay much attention, installed seat tubes in upside down. Which gave rise to peculiar non-standard seatpost requirements.

  • I've got a mystery frame that has an old 531 sticker on it. So far I've been through 27.2, 27, and 26.8 and none of them have fit so far. The 26.4mm seems to, but I haven't tried to tighten it yet. I didn't even realise there was a 26.6mm seatpost. What a faff.

  • A good pair of vernier calipers could have saved you some hassle.

  • Do you think I can get 9 speed out of suntour cyclone II with suntour powershifters?

Indeed. So would waiting until I actually had the frames in my possession before buying bits for them. I'm living and learning.

Not really, seat lugs are often distorted on old frames, so the only really reliable test is a set of bore guages.

    ish
If you're going to try, I'd suggest swapping the pulleys for ones off a modern dérailleur, they will probably bring the cages a tad closer together to suit the narrow chain.

Missed this... I had a 531 (main triangle) Peugeot PKN frame that definitely took a 26.4 post.
