  • Found a better photo of my recently stolen red pinarello...

Now has brooks colt saddle on, with seatpost fairly high - and ball bearings glued into the seatpost bolt, so that's not moving.

Also now has white Pinarello decal on downtube.

  • If anyone is going to Brick Lane on Sunday, could I meet up with you, as I would like to search for my bike too, also dont forget Broadway Market on Saturday. ps. it is the same guys that work both - I know this for certain

  • It would be great if we all got together and protested at Brick Lane and Broadway Markets - with banners reading "stolen bikes sold here" if there were enough of us it would be brilliant and it would get attention from both press, market associations and neighbourhood Police. I did think of stencil graffiti the same phrase on the pavements of both markets to alert "some" of the people who don't realise they are buying stolen goods.

This is a forum community - who would be up for it???? It is one major gang who are controlling both markets -- I watched them for 2 weekends and how they operated.

  • Playing devils advocate; surely they would just move to another area or market. At least we know where to go now if we do lose a bike.

  • Tempting though this is hussy, I think that it is honestly a very bad idea. The people that you will be dealing with are criminals, it is therefore likely that they will resort to violence in order to protect their enterprise. A much more sensible way to deal with this would be to organise the large numbers of people on the forum to engage with the GLC, local MPs and the police to register the fact that this is so brazen and that something needs to be done about it. The scope for something to go wrong in confronting these people is too great and could put good people with good intentions in harms way.

  • Who owns / runs the market? Is it the council? If so perhaps a delegation could be got together to have a serious (professional) meeting with whichever department / councillor is in charge of the market to put forward the concerns and evidence / experience of riders here.

That would put pressure on them to act perhaps by sending round their council inspectors / not hiring out pitches to certain people etc

New Covent garden market Jumble sale in Vauxhall Sunday as well...

Managed to get my merckx back from there but not without a considerable amount of danger / risk

  • Tiswas no idea how they got my cycle, nothing was left when I got back, the other thing that takes the piss right is that on wigmore between 7&9pm there was not massive amount of people but there we're people who were around n must have seen the fucker take it. I ask a bunch of people who were sitting having drinks outside of pubs, nobody claim to have seen anything.

That is a really nice pinarello holler.

Ill be at brick lane on Sunday, I just want my cycle back. I fucking hate the bus.

  • What time does the Brick Lane market start/end? I wonder if it's worth bringing a lock to slap on my bike if I spot it so they cannot run off with it. I highly doubt there'd be a Whyte Stirling legitimately for sale on any market.

I need to stop getting my hopes up as I'm likely to be disappointed, but the chance of finding it this sunday is putting me at ease. I've been struggling to sleep this week as I keep thinking about how my own stupidity led to this situation.:(

Hardly - you locked your bike up and some low-life pinched it. Doesn't sound like you did much wrong - it's not your fault these people do what they do.

  • I suppose so, but if I was more cynical and less naive/tight I would have bought a stronger lock and purchased bike insurance.

  • Do you have contents insurance?

  • ^ possibly worth it if your excess isn't too high.

  • Unfortunately not, I've only recently moved down to London so not sorted out contents insurance either. Risky business I know, I'll probably get burgled next!

  • This is dodgy I know but could you "theoretically" say that you live with your parents and were visiting London with your bike when it got stolen? Like I said purely theoretical question.

  • I got my bike back! The 1999 black n yellow Cannondale Silk Road 1000 reported spotted in Brick Lane a few days ago.

Cycle Task Force did a raid on the flat of a Gum Tree seller after I found it on there by the SECOND SELLER in a week. It has changed hands at Brick Lane market on Sunday.

Cycle Task Force take a few days to respond to you and you can't call them but once they get going they can really help, even getting a search warrant in a few hours.

Re Brick Lane: The market is only on Sundays but my bike was spotted there over a week after being nicked so it's worth going down there this Sunday.

If you contact the Safer Neighbourhoods team at Brick Lane police station you may be able to get plain clothes police accompaniment to walk around the market for an hour or so, as I did. Even if you don't spot your bike in that time you'll at least know where to look.

    Nice one

  • My pal's bike was stolen in Hoxton recently. Its Langster Monaco, but only the frame is standard to the bike so should be pretty easy to spot. Drop me a PM if spotted please!

Long Shot.. Any sign of this? Starting to miss my runabout..

  • Another case of a Brooks stolen :(

Had my burgundy B67 nabbed from outside the Royal Oak. They chomped through the chain trick and picked out wax from the clamp bolt. Please don't lock your bike on the Columbia Rd stretch. It's rife apparently.

Very uncommon colour so if anyone sees it please shout.
I'll be checking Brick Lane and Broadway brandishing an old chain ring ...

Same place as where mine was nicked

  • Some more good news! My Pinarello was stolen on Monday (pics above).

It was sold on gumtree the same day for 60quid, before I could get to it. It cropped up again this morning, gingerchris spotted it and dropped me a pm.

Having done all the registering of the theft with the city police before, I gave them the gumtree ad...

(guys put some nasty drops on it)...

They've gone out and nicked the c*nt. So now I have my bike back, and whats even more gratifying, the guy's been arrested!

  • Result! Well done!

  • I shall dance a celebration jig in your honour.
