Does anyone know any good Turkish restaurants in N London? Kentish Town, Archway, Highgate, Crouch End .. somewhere like that.

Ideally serving Börek, Lahmacun, Pide, Ayran, all the usual stuff.

    Sağol.

Stoke Newington High Street. Try TESTI.

  • I want to make cornbeef like mum does. In Oz you can buy it in the supermarket - usually a big chunk of vaccumed packed meet (brisket) that has been salt cured. You then boil it in water with little onions, bay leaves and pepper corns. Slice it thick (like what you get on salt-beef bagels) and have it which cauliflour cheese, mashed spuds and picalilli. Its bloody fantastic.

    I don't want canned shit.
I dare say I can get said cut/type of meet in the UK - but is it called something else? Can't seem to see it in the supermarket/butchers.

You can get proper salt cured beef brisket (corned beef outside UK) as served in Brick Lane beigels from the butcher in Selfridges.

Think its the only place I've seen it retailing and pretty sure its from Hensons who's website says they do supply butchers and delis.

  • Large pepperoni passion with mozzarella sticks from domino's for supper. Freshly baked scones just out the oven, gonna have 'em with clotted cream and rasberry jam. Mmmmmmmm.

The east end steak company I posted above do it but they add an extra 50% in price for curing it, It seems pretty easy to cure and hang it, will probs give it a go in the near future. Brisket used to be so much cheaper until bloody fearnley-whittingstall made it trendy the cunt.

If you mean Jack O'Shea (who did the fresh meat section), Selfridges terminated his contract a few days ago after discovering that he'd been selling fois gras under the counter.

  • Ha! It's like something out of Royston Vasey; under the counter "secret meat"

I'm off to eat.st at lunchtime with a £10 note and I intend to stuff my face.
