Noel Gallagher's latest rag-tag collection of third-rate buskers have an album out which, from hearing on the TV, has a lyric - 'If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun'.
Why should we tolerate this abject crap?

I'm looking to rent a room within cycling distance of WC1 (Goodge Street), but I've not lived in London before. Budget is about £5-600 pm including bills. Any areas you would recommend?

A 1988 Cannondale Criterium is built for a 7-speed rear block. Will I be able to get 8/9 on there?
-
• #24582
Measure OLN dimension - some 7-speeds were 126mm, some were 130mm. If It's 130mm, any modern road hub with 7-11 speeds will fit. 1988 suggests 126mm to me, but it's close to the transition period.

it's 126mm, does that mean 7 speed blocks only?
-
• #24584
Yes, and sometimes even 7 speed is tricky, I've had issues with chain/dropout clearance with 7-speed 126mm set ups. If you can, stick to 6-speed for a simple life. If it were steel, you could just jam a 130mm hub in there, but that's obviously a bad idea with a 25 year old Crack'n'fail

We shouldn't, obviously. As so many pop lyrics are crap, there would be plenty that could be cited here, and while the absence of better material is of course a great pity, the only strategy that works is to try to ignore most of it. Life's too short to get annoyed about all its crap lyrics.

Don't listen to the radio, especially radio1

I need to put a cassette on a shimano freehub ( used to have a 10sp casette on it). It's for bike to use indoors on rollers so just needs to be cheap - do I have to find a shimano 10sp cassette or is there a degree of flexibility?

Sadly yes. I used to love the radio and listened to it all the time, but I've for the most part found it unbearable in the last couple of years.

Shimano 8/9/10 all fit on the same freehub body.

i have some old tackx rollers - these ones
and the plastic on the back ones is a bit soft and has lost its perfect roundness... i was thinking of filling it with polyfiller or something like that to try and beef it up a bit and encourage it to keep its shape. is that a bad / good /stupid / pointless idea - any thoughts?

Is there no such thing as an 18 tooth DA sprocket? Looking about suggests there isn't.
-
• #24593
Does it have to be DA?
-
• #24594
My neurosis will accept no substitute I'm afraid. Seems it will have to though, thanks.
-
• #24595
You could always "pantograph" Dura-Fucking-Ace onto the sprocket, then self harm in a corner?
-
• #24596
I think he fears the self harm that would happen if he uses a non DA. Top tubes can be vicious

I'm meant to do three hours of zone 2 tomorrow- if I did this on the turbo would my brain sharpen a neuron, and use it to saw the top of my skull off so that it could make it's escape to somewhere less boring?

Removed some decals from my bike. what should I use to remove the sticky residue they left behind?

what should I use to remove the sticky stuff
Sticky Stuff Remover
If you want industrial quantities (and you do, as it's a very handy general purpose degreaser), search for d-limonene. While you're in the industrial solvents shop, get some isopropanol too, to remove the residues of d-limonene.
cheers.
