One of those words should be convex?
But if you want a flat surface to shoot from neither is good.
Can I just check is b saying the milky's go concave?
-
• #1103
Well, I don't think that's for sure.
The whole point of a flat surface is that you have a higher surface area between the ball and the mallet (leading to straighter shots etc).
But, the ball isn't flat. It will deform on impact, so you will have a certain flat surface (not just a point), but around the edge of that flat surface you'll get a curve.
By having it concave it should increase that surface area, and therefore lead to even straighter shots.
But if you go too far you start to have a ring of impact, and not a central point (an uncapped mallet is effectively a massively concave one).
Either way, I don't think my milk is any more concave than it was at the start (which it was).

I wouldn't pay £20 for head that doesn't last longer and (maybe) goes concave.
Do you have any idea of a price for the 3PMH capped heads John?
-
• #1105
Take the example of a tennis racket, at the moment of impact the strings are no longer flat, but rather concave, leading to a much bigger surface area (and therefore a better shot).

Anyway, I'm not trying to convince anyone to buy them, and yes, I wouldn't use them at Newington in the long run (which is why I try not to play there any more), I'm just trying to find out if there is interest.
I'll compare my brand new one at home, and my used one to see if there is any difference.

That is true only if the ball hits in the middle of the mallet. if it's towards the edge of a concave surface it won't go straight.
I have only passing interest in what other people spend their money on, but a £20 head is too far. I remember when people were balking at the idea of paying £7!
I wonder what will be an acceptable price next year?! Considering a lot of these head makers say they are doing it close to cost and some profit should really be acceptable, I eouldn't be surprised if there isn't a £50 head out within a year!

And if people buy it why shouldn't there be?
Some people spend hundreds of pounds on a football boot, when you can get them for £20.

Fair point, but it's only concave in the middle, there is a 1cm or so rim around the edge which is flat.

Also has anyone done any comparisons of how much faster (if at all) newt Wears heads? Or is this all just hearsay?
-
• #1111
hearsay.
There is no doubt the surface is rougher though.
-
• #1112
It's defiantly rougher than Mitch when it's covered in slime, I'm yet to play on Mitch when it's clean...
I'm just wondering if the roughness of the surface warrants playing elsewhere?
-
• #1113
Mitch was cleaned a week ago, so much better now, and they are going to come back regularly.
-
• #1114
What lou said. Yep concave, so therefore the ball isnt always struck by a flat angle. The tennis racquet example is inaccurate, because a: they are strings not a sold facing B: The tennis racquet is 30 times the surface area of the balls contact point.

• #1115
And I'm not sure people are buying £20 heads. I only said I would if they lasted longer, which would even the cost out.
The 3mph with heads on can't be much more than £10? -
• #1116
No idea on cost of those yet Joni.
Well it doesn't look there is much demand right now, so I won't order any.
-
• #1117
Maybe give it a while John? Lots of people don't do the forum for a living (aimed at myself). Nik said she might be interested.

Damn those Perro Lites are waaaaaay light!
-
• #1119
I got one waiting to be made up, hope they are as strong. I have had the same perro for ages and it's still fine .

how many times have you ever played at mitch??

:doeshookthroughcheekfishingmotion
Sorry max, only three times, I just find it funny how defensive you get about Mitch.
-
• #1122
To be fair I also find some southies opinion of newt funny.
I hope my stirring doesn't obscure the serious question about how abrasive newt is.

Ha! The only 'facts' / 'evidence' on this forum come from hearsay, hyperbole and wild speculation.
I said it as a joke to Snoops last night, "can you put a price on goals". But it does have a serious point, people will always spend silly amounts of money on the "best" sports equipment, looking for that little edge.
I'm happy to pay £20 if I think it makes a difference.
Surely concave is a good thing, more surface area when it impacts the ball. Convex would be bad.
