  • I've done 3 at once but never 5!

  • What is a 5-hole shot?

    It's American.

  • I am completely happy with my Marino, now that I have had a few months on it. I thought I was ordering something really extreme, and that I would order again, but actually it is perfect. If I order another frame it will be purely out of curiosity or because I want something fancier.

(sorry for not getting back to your PM, Dan)

No worries - some useful info/reassurance right there. Ta.

  • Grinds for BMX and (sigh) fixie tricks...

...also for keeping your chainring out of harms way if you're a righty.

  • It's American.

Like 'pick up' and 'marco...' and all the other bollocks.

  • Dude I totally beat you on marco and blew out ur 5-hole in that pick up game bra.

    #vom

  • *Mate, I beat you on the charge and scored through your BB in that throw-in. *

  • Sweet

  • Pedals coming undone, bodge required for the drivetrain to work and shots are more likely to deflect into goal from a 5-hole shot.

does that mean lefties should have the cranks on the wrong side?

And aren't there cranks made to be on the left side so you don't need to worry about pedals coming undone? (iirc didn't dale have a pair?)

i feel exactly the same about mine, thought id gone too short with the stays (160) but now with a longer stem, bit more weight on the front i love it, not sure i would change anything if i did it again, i think fancy tubing for polo is false economy, everything we've seen so far thats not 4130 has lots of dents

  • The only thing I would change is couplers and titanium

    ok those too

Having now had my custom 14 for a while now, I love the way it feels (handling, etc), although the rear end could be tighter. there are a few things I have been a bit disappointed with however, the disc tab has been the most annoying part of the frame, having specified that i want the option to run a rear disc, it seems although there is physically not enough space to fit the calliper. the second thing is the tubing, although it is super strong and light the amount of dents i have picked up recently (notably at the uk champs when i picked up a massive dent in the down tube) it seems that a slightly heavier and stronger tubing would have been better for the abuse that bike polo does to a frame. next time I think i would also go ti or something that is not 853 or 631....

  • ... like double butted Japanese cromoly tubing.

NS traffic frames are now £180

and a trip to Oak Cycles, you have an amazing polo bike (for shorter people).

I'm so pleased with the way mine has turned out, it handles so amazingly well and is helping me improve my game a lot.

  • i love my NS majesty, (currently building it up into a proper mountain bike) but for anyone approaching 6ft the seat tube is just too low to get proper leg extension for polo, even with a 450mm seat tube, that and the fact you can get a totally custom Marino for less than that traffic i think it makes sense

  • the disc tab has been the most annoying part of the frame, having specified that i want the option to run a rear disc, it seems although there is physically not enough space to fit the calliper.

Fucking disc tabs. You wouldn't believe how many I come across that are just wrong. Usually it's alignment rather than simply not being able to put a caliper in, but it seems mass-producing Taiwanese and local custom builders face the same challenge. Some brakes/calipers/lever combinations rely on ridiculously close tolerances (the current trend in cyclocross bikes with disc brakes is like a perfect storm of shitness) and it seems that it's hit or miss. Avid's patent of v-brake style conical washers certainly helps, but even then it's not perfect.

  • I've heard the next gen of 14 frames will be made of T45...

  • I've heard that phrase before but not in real life. What is a 5-hole shot?

In (Ice) Hockey, because the goalie takes up so much of the goal, you only have 5 areas to aim for, the 4 corners, and between the legs (actually it's 7, with under the armpits, but traditionally always 5)

Between the legs is the fifth hole, or the 5 hole.

Polo has the same 5 holes, above and below the front and back wheel, and then the 5 hole under the BB.

  • What about through the triangle.

  • I've heard the next gen of 14 frames will be made of T45...

Ti frame, £75 more than 14bikeco frame, if you have patience. #justsayin

  • What about through the triangle.

Well yeah, there is that. I guess that's sort of still the 5 hole.

  • I guess that's sort of still the 5 hole.

What? No it isn't. That's like saying the two circles in a figure 8 comprises the same area. It clearly doesn't, a figure 8 has two distinct areas.

  • And by that logic, the areas above and below the wheels is the one 'hole'.

John H, I am disappoint at how fastidiously you are clinging to the 5 hole phrase.

  • triangle is the 1 triangle. Holes are the other bits.

  • I prefer the verb "to nutmeg".
