but if you placed them facing upwards wouldn't they produce lift, making the bike lighter and cancel out any negatives of aero drag?
Holy shit.
-
• #54603
Hehehe! So with a zero deg stem as well = even more lift?!
-

No it just mean it's angle at the right point to enter your arse.

I.... gave rep to ed?

Thanking you kindly, I shall reap it with delight.

Lol!
On one hand my brain is struggling with hilarity of someone using their handlebar protrusions in conjunction with someone elses (we hope) arse as a brake and/or as bike stand, and on the other hand is wincing at the mere thought that said handlebar could get aimed at my arse!
Think the humorous side is winning out though. Rep well deserved Ed!
That said, I will keep my back to a wall if I ever do meet you. :P

What bars on the Fort? (Looks better with logo)
better with logos! angle doesn't look to crazy
Thanks for the feedback, logos will remain.
Bars are just some profile airwings, they are a good shape.

So, I have acquired a bargain from the esteemed Hilly Ben ( Esteemed, because he threw in a free half pint with the frame, despite me sneaking off having paid him short - no idea what the rest of you think of him ;-p )
This is hillys old 80's Concorde columbus steel frame, hurrah. 126mm rear spacing, saucy little thing that it is. I feel a new winter commuter coming on.
I now need to consider how to build it up spending something within the realm of sanity for a winter commute, while not ruining the bike - it'll be on an old set of Mavic open pros, tiagra front brake and a brooks saddle, but other than that, its going to be a hunt and build.
1 inch threaded Stem & Bars, I might splurge a little and see if I can find a sale nitto noodle & stem.
I hope to use my existing (late 90s) Shimano 9 speed Tiagra cranks (double ring, square taper), but need to consider hub and BB that will give me a decent chainline without breaking the bank. Horizontal dropouts. BB is italian threaded, any suggestions?
I figured a Shimano UN55 with 113mm spindle - Sheldon thinks 110 will give me a 41mm chainline on the inside of the spider, so 113 will give me 42.5 - which should be nice and in line for common 120mm hubs on the rear, right?
/noob building first fixed ;-p
edit: What? I can measure a tube. Honest!

i used to have a frame with very similar paint.

I saw that, complete bargain. Surely you mean 1" threaded. Its all standard apart from Italian bb, which is pretty standard. I reckon drop bars, double brake, clipless. Goodluck!

Malaysian what about getting some columbus minimal forks? they come in 1"

this is not the typo you're looking for
/distraction Also, got a Garmin 800 with cadence/heartrate from Halfords for 290quid today. Which was nice.

That looks to be a proper size- 60/62?

deceiving because nothing's shod, but in fact 58/58

I've not been following this one inch carbon forks conversation, however if you're looking for some they are a bit rare, but do show up on ebay pretty regularly. I picked up a pair of dedaccai (sp?) ones without too much of a wait for not too much.

...I bought a Concorde with Italian BB threads..
I did the same (although 130mm spaced). I picked up the 113mm Shimano bb from Chainreaction after weighing up all the options. I tried a 1 mm spacer on the hub (and behind the cog) but this just gets crushed when you tighten the cog down so I ditched it. The chainline is fine - perhaps a mm off perfect but not a problem with 3/32 chainring and 1/8th chains and cogs.

i'll try and oblige, crane ;)
I reckon you'll be right, modern looking frame tend to look decent with 0 degree stem generally.
