If you want to bring crank length into it, and generally confuse noobs, use gain ratio

  • Both good headsets. The Cane Creeks are very nicely finished for the money. I'd pick the one that looks better on the bike. :)

That's really fucking nice, and also the same colour as my girlfriend's bike, too.

  • Any advice on 'classic' dropbars with a relatively shorter reach?
I've read about Nitto Noodles, but they're not widely available 2nd handed.

I'm checking my options for combining a tad shorter stem and a bit less reach in the bars towards the hoods to keep the overall look a bit more balanced, for as far as possible.

    Setup now:

So good, the tattoo makes me nervous though.

  • thanks for the advice on the ratios, and cheers miro o, link helped me understand it all

Giros? Normally stacks of them available second hand

  • I've just had some 3TTT ergo power TDF bars arrive from Planet X. They're 80mm reach.

    No worries.

Noodles actually have quite a long reach by modern standards - around 95mm, which is a good inch further than a modern compact.

    Try the B105AA - reach is 65mm.

Alright then I think its the cane creek I wanted something that didn't bulge out like chris king et al I think they can end up looking like a frogs throat sac espec on 1 inch head tubes

Worry not, it will be hidden between her legs. It's a slightly altered version of a series of posters I did for our wedding last year (She did the flowers so.....) and also ties the origins of the bike to it's new life when paired with the head badge. I live about 200 yards from Ernie Young's original shop as detailed on his logo, and I just fancied a logo of my own. Ergo it kind of designed itself, though getting it made was a totally different matter....

Off to Arup later for wheely goodness and some vernier checking. Sold as 27.2, there is noooooo way a 27.2 will go in there.

More pics. (Inc the wedding ones, you lucky f*ckers)

  • How had I not seen this^^ thread before its hilarious

  • @ Rob ^^ how much did that cost, if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking about getting my girlfriend's bike done in a similar fashion.

  • It should be on the bike as.

  • or not.

The Forty can be a bit bulge-y too though, just in a different way.

Maybe if the frame was lugged it wouldn't be so noticeable.

It's probably par for the course with decent non-integrated headsets unfortunately, they're always trying to make the bearings bigger in order to handle the load better.

    Totally agreed! Brilliant!

Frame was £120 and was perfect, only recently powdercoated and complete with headset. So I got it stripped ! Mario charged £88 which is the metallic colour, the white seat tube collar with hand painted god trim, head badge and removal of the gear lever bosses.

The seat tube sticker was free for a sheet of 6 and required the machivellian skills of the devil himself to weedle out of some granite faced print types. Luckily I have them.

And Miro o I had considered the velo idea but as I was noting her turning 40 in the design in French (to soften the blow) I thought it too European. But yes it would have been cool and a logical evolution of our wedding graphics.

I've also spent another fiver since these photos as I chipped the damm thing so a 531 sticker has been stealthily bought and applied. Never use a spanner with greasy hands mes amis.....

  • Is it RAL 6019?

    It does look really nice.
