Blimey. 110 pounds for a chainring. That is a lot.

It's a very intricate piece of CNC work, in an expensive alloy, made in small numbers. And it's cheaper than spare 7900 outer rings...

There were problems with these IIRC. Deffo do some UTFS on here before buying them. I can't get anymore acronyms in AFAIK.
I have a set of them and they've been good, don't know what the problems have been but they've been pretty flawless for me. However, I have a set of Omnium's too and they are NOT the same. -
• #52980
Cheers for that. I'm glad you said that about going outboard. I really like the external BB and cranks on my Pinarello road bike and can imagine it would make a big difference on the track.
Omniums it is I think. In black obviously. Cheers all.
EDIT: Saw the S300 and considered them as a good compromise too.
S300 are nice, look good in the flesh and seem pretty stiff.

am I just being slow or has this been completely ignored? should be real nice
could, i guess
That Masi is beyond nice.. Effin' wow.. 753.. Purple to boot.. MAN! What are you planning on putting on it scorch?
could be? trust me, if it's scorchs build it will be straight to porn, do not pass go.....

Last bike pick up; Panasonic team time trial equipped with 105. Stunningly fugly setup at the moment but the plan is to bring it back to 1990 or thereabouts components wise (3T extensions are set to go). The seatpost can be turned around I do hope cuz the ano matches the metallic blue paint on the frame.
Excuse image quality!

True - the S300 chainring is 3/32" as well. But then it's nearly half the price of the Omnium, and better than the (also 130 BCD) RD2.
my S300 cames with a 1 1/8th chainring....?
-
• #52984
really? mine came with 3/32
-
• #52985
hmmm.... I was sure i read it was 1 1/8th, will check it... I may be wrong.

Way too tired to take better pics. Just finished today. First SS and not really your typical I suppose, but its mine and I love it (so far)! Built to take a severe beating, be fun and last, as I weigh in at nearly 17 stone and am 6'2" and will ride it hard. On One Inbred frame, DMR OW forks (1016grams), Shimano 2012 XT discs and SLX chainset (single and bash, 36/15 ratio), Thompson 50mm stem, Nukeproof seatpost, Answer Protaper bars and Stan's Flow tubeless ready rims.
But can change to cut down narrow bars, skinny tubeless slicks (if I can find any for a 26" wheel), SPD's, 42 tooth chainring and remove rear brake if I wanna make it more road friendly in future. -

Sorry, interweb being a twat. Grrr.

why would you remove the rear brake to make it more road friendly...?!

you guys are too kind =)) it's a 1992 3Volumetrica MASI, which has sort of internal lugs instead of external (overlapping), hence over-size diameter tubes (more articles here).
not sure on the build yet, really don't want to stick to the "usual" campa, whether record or c-record, so thinking of other options - DA maybe, or American only (because this MASI is US produced), which is $$$ too... -

That's such a gorgeous frame.

All the ones I've seen have been 3/32". Unhelpfully, it rarely seems to be mentioned in the spec when you see them for sale online.

yes, it is, funnily enough both of these bikes are in Moscow =)) except mine is not in such a good condition...

skinny tubeless slicks (if I can find any for a 26" wheel),
For road use, use 26x2.0 Schwalbe Big Apples. In b4 Ed.
Sorry, being a twat

Last city bike I built up ended up with totally minimalist setup and removed rear brake, front gears, and cut down the flat bars I had. Not to everyones taste, but it worked just fine for me and was a very fast bike for a mountain bike framed, 26"er. Just had to be aware to keep your weight back when braking heavily, which was never an issue with me.

Hmmm, I generally preferred using specialized 1" with armadillo armor (I think thats what it was, it was many moons ago now) for faster rolling resistance, however, did change the front to 1.35 semi slick for better grip after having front end slide out on manhole covers and drainage grates a few times in the wet. Still a damned fast bike.
Currently running 2.2 and 2.35.Sorry MDCC tester, new to these forums and for the life of me, cannot find where to edit my bloody posts! 0_o

If the specialized armadillo mtb slicks are anything like the road ones then I think you should try another tyre...
...IMO altho the puncture protection is good, they're pretty hideous tyres.

Any recommendations for fast rolling 26" light weight winter slicks?
Have got Stan's NoTubes Flow rims, so can possibly run tubeless, depending on carcass width.
Its so annoying having been away from cycling for so long and not knowing what works anymore! Especially as I'm the only one in my circle of mates that has any interest in pedal driven conveyance.
Have had to do so much research to build this current bike and can already feel a proper road focused fixed gear SS begging me to build it! Least I think I could built a half decent one for under £500 if I look around and use more 2nd hand parts. Only thing on this bike thats 2nd hand is the frame. -

just for the record, Wilkinson's own brand paint stripper is awful. This combined with my lack of skill have made a right mess of my project's frame.
Just to create further confusion, there's always the slightly more expensive but very tempting Hollowtech2/USE combo
