Which browser are you lot using?
I am having an issue with Swype keyboard fucking up when using the text editing box on the stock browser. It also fucks up on the Miren Browser and the Dolphin ones. The only one it works with is opera, which is sloooooow and has no flash support. Grrr. Haven't tried Firefox as the reviews are scathing.
I will put a bug report in with Swype and see if I can resolve it that way, but is there a browser I haven't tried yet? (edit: Skyfire still to be tried).

It sounds more like a swype problem than which browser. Swype has worked fine for me on stock, Firefox and Opera on Samsung GS2 and HTC Legend.

Yep, it's definitely a swype bug, but I know I can work around it with browser choice. it's just that all of the browsers that work around it are crap.
Out of interest, which version of swype / android are you running? If you perform the test in that link up there, in opera, do you get the issue? edit: and on stock htc browser? (to be clear, I get the issue in the stock htc "Internet"browser but not in opera)

Does Swype do a tablet version? I'm curious to give it a try..

Using stock on the GS2 Android 2.3.4, with the built in Swype (version 3.23.89.29564.29696.2852.0XX), I can select either word with a single click and it selects the whole word, with the cursor moving to the start of the word. What is the expected behaviour?

I was quite close to picking up the Samsung 10.1 tab yesterday. Best tab I have used so far.
I've played around with the Sony tab, not that impressed at all.

bought the archos 101 yesterday. happy with it so far. but im having some issues with the slow response of the touch. particularly the 'buttons' around the bottom edge of the landscaped screen. but i think ive figured it out now, i just have to press with a full finger print rather than just the tip. @hippy, you mentioned you had to did some i.t. computer wizardry thingy to improve the touch sensitivity? what was it? it's still on its orig os and ive not downloaded any firmware updates. all ive done is downloaded arctools, google android market and few little apps.
quality of the screen is ok. it's no samsung gs2 but it's ok. bit limited in viewing angles too but dont see any two or three people watching/browsing from this small table anyway. it's still a pretty good package for that price
might get swype for it later. got used to it on my galaxy gs2

I've got a custom rom on mine - UrukDroid
How to install the Archos SDE firmware:
www.arctablet.com - Installing Archos Special developer edition (SDE) firmware on an Archos 70 ITRead the warnings about Archos Special Developer Edition as it's a one-way, warranty-voiding process.
UrukDroid 1.6RC2 is now installed and running well, much smoother than stock. ArcTools 0.56 just wouldn't run so instead use 0.50 as per the instructions found here: www.arctablet.com - Arctools 0.56 won't start

I'm in HMV right now, think I prefer the 7.0 to the 10.1, screen is much crisper and runs Gingerbread as opposed to Froyo... Hmmm... Off for a ponder before I purchase...
-
• #5939
tha. ill read up on it and give it a go. bit of battle getting the 'big phone' out of the 3yo's grubby hands though

I should be buying a carpet, but one of these is mighty tempting...

@hippy - so is Urukdroid based on Gingerbread or Froyo? Also the Archos support page currently has firmware v 2.4.65 (Dated 20th October) - what version of Android is that?
The Archos firmware is based on 2.2. I wouldn't hold my breath for 3.0 or 4.0 from Archos on the 101. They will probably have new tablets specifically for ICS.

• #5943
Yeah they have said that officially, honeycomb is a G9 thing only, they haven't said anything about ICS (4.0) yet I believe. All I'm interested in is Gingerbread really. Since it contains the bulk of fixes and performs well.

"UrukDroid is an Android distribution for Archos GEN8 devices. It's mix of Android 2.2.1, original Archos OS with different Linux/GNU utilities, kernel patches and all kinds of modifications."

Grr so Barnes & Noble have announced their new tablet, the Nook 2. It's that "little" bit better than the Kindle Fire. Dual core 1Ghz, 16Gig storage, 1 Gb ram, SD slot... $250 ... guess I'm changing my preorder
-
• #5946
Will you be able to get that in the UK easy enough?
-
• #5947
No idea, I'm trying to figure out how to get it from the US. Can't just have a UK billing address... gonna have to get my mate to buy it instead

Regarding the Archos 101, where is this £129 deal being held, i cant seem to find anything about it on the goog. HMV searches result in naddah, is this deal happening in any HMV i happen to wander into?
-
• #5949
apparently its only certain ones.
I found it both in the Canary Wharf one and the one in Bournemouth.

Oxford Circus HMV is where mine was bought from. The bloke that bought mine said they'd gone from 500 at the start of the day to about 70 left when at 5pm. That was.. I dunno.. a week ago?
Here yer go, Ashe...
