I found the HMV in Westfield Stratford to have plentiful stock. I ended up with a 16gb model despite the 8gb package and price tag.

Ooh ill check out Shepherd bush Westfield then.

I'm buying a 10.1 for Mrs Slain's dad for xmas, may treat myself to a a 7.0 if I can justify the expense between now and visiting the store...

Regarding the Archos 101, where is this £129 deal being held, i cant seem to find anything about it on the goog. HMV searches result in naddah, is this deal happening in any HMV i happen to wander into?
Oxford Circus had sold out, the dude there told me the offer finished yesterday anyway, however...
They still had some at the Picadilly branch...

Shit, what? So the deals gone, thats it? Flinging the price back upto whatever it was i guess. God damnit, was looking forward to brewing that thing up till it exploded.

I was in a Staples store last night, playing with a Archos 101. I found it a little clunky in it's default state, but I could see it's potential. If I wasn't about to lay out £200 on some bloody carpet I'd be all over this :/

The main issue with it is viewing angle. I get a bit of a headache from reading comics, as it's not possible to get a consistent image in portrait mode. I've read somewhere that a screen protector helps with this. That's on my list of must buys.
App tip: The tTorrent client is very good; built in search from various sites, and runs very quick.

Another thing I noticed about the Archos is the stand that folds out on the back. It's a nice touch, but the display unit they had in Staples (which has obviously been played about with a lot) seemed to have issues folding it away fully. It seemed to protrude a little after sliding it back into the back of the tablet. Things like that might bug me, but if I could get the tablet for around £120 I don't think I'd be too bothered...

My local Currys (Brixtonia) is also selling the 8Gb Archos 10.1 for £129... Fill yer boots...

Nice ill take look in my locals too, was hoping to get a 16gb for that price, luck may still be on my side.

The 101 is still on sale at Leadenhall, as is the 7" for 120. The 7 has 2.3.1 loaded as stock.

I didn't know mine was a 16gb until it was out of the 8gb labelled box and I'd already been playing around with it for half an hour. Pure chance with my one perhaps but there is a little sticker behind the fold out stand which states the storage capacity so you can scour them over to see if you've struck lucky without having to turn them on although the boxes themselves are wrapped in plastic.
I've ordered a couple of anti glare screen protectors to try out as the viewing angle is a little restricted albeit fine for solo use. I think the screen could be a little more touch sensitive (which will only get worse with a screen protector) and I haven't looked into whether there's a tweak for that. General web browsing is fine and relatively speedy and it's ideal for watching downloaded films and TV shows in bed. Although TVCatchup doesn't run well on it at all. Sound quality through its speakers is good and better than the speakers on my Vaio laptop.

That is interesting because all of the literature says 8GB. Perhaps they bundle an extra 8GB card in the SD slot. Worth checking and reporting back. If HMV is truely out of stock then, CPW has them too for £149. I played with one yesterday, still not sure. I want to see the new Archos G9 8" before I decide.

Mine's definitely an 8Gb, with the sticker behind the stand confirming it. The SD card slot is empty, and comes up as a separate drive in the file system.

that sounds like a good deal..2.3 as well!
i was thinking about getting the 7" and getting a smaller, more indestructible phone (i am a metalworker and think my desire z is going to die). But i'd still like to be able to share a 3g connection, anyone know of a phone that would fit this spec?

CPW have the 7" for £99
That's the previous generation, with 2.2. HMV is the G2 with 2.3: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;0;-1;-1;-1&sku=335573

^ This... I'm more tempted by the 7" than the 10", but maybe that's just a not-in-touch-or-maybe-just-not-very-comfortable-with-my-feminine-side thing...

I'm tempted to return the 10" for the 7", as it seemed quicker and is less of a slab. Better screen as well.

The Gingerbread Archos 7 was sexy... Small, perfectly formed...

Fuck it! I want one but know I'll be selling it on this thread in a months time... Gah!

Dibs!
Sheeeeit. Well apparently, staples prices matches so a trip down to OKR might be in order if oxfd Circus is all out. Cheers
