Those HSBC calculators are a complete pain in the scrotum. It's so small that I carry mine around in the leaflet/wallet thing it came in, otherwise I'd lose it immediately. Yet too big and annoying-looking to carry on my keys. Is that what they think you'll do, carry it on your keys?! Ridiculous, it'd get battered. Spastics.
Also the presumptuous and arrogant slogan "The World's Local Bank" gets on my tits (as there is, of course, nothing in any way local about an enormous multi-national banking corporation).
Ive been abroad loads of times and never been able to access any money through foreigh HSBC banks despite being a hsbc customer. Neither at the ATM or inside the branch. But in these same countries other banks (like "ONE BANK" for example) have given me full access to funds/banking even though I am not an account holder.

You're at your desk, you want to check your balance and maybe pay a bill.
You go to login:
a) No fucking calculator thing, it's on the table at home. Fail
b) Calculator thing has de-synced a-fucking-gain. FailThey are fucking shit, designed by cunts to torment people.
I have 2
One for work and one for home.

How deos that deal with (2)?
Every time I have used mine I have had to phone the helpdesk person to get some mysterious re-syncing done.
It is honestly enough to make me switch bank accounts- the Mrs has Barclays, their calculator, whilst massive, works every time.

My LBS has informed me that the gear and brake cables on my recently purchased (second hand) road bike are a bit squiffy and could do with replacement. I don't want to spend too much seeing as I've just splurged on a new bike, but can anyone recommend a bundle I can get online that will do the job? I need all the ferules etc too as those are a bit fucked too. Preferably not too ugly as the bike is quite nice...

Rapha jeans, Swrve jeans or neither? Yes, I've read all of the jean threads and tried many of the 'normal' jean suggestions but none seem to be able to handle my epic riding skillzz. And no, I refuse to wear lycra unless I'm off to the track/doing laps somewhere. Hopefully someone has experience of the Rapha/Swrve offerings?

Whichever you find comfortable, pop down to Condor to try them out?

Rock and roll cable magic lube is reported to rejuvenate and work wonders on old/new cable alike. If you want to replace then for gear cable outers goodridge do compressionless housing meaning the cable sees a constant diameter through bends. Thats £5 per metre i think. To my knowledge the cables themselves are much of a muchness, but pre-stretched wouldn't do any harm.
Gore are touted to be the best apparently. £30 - £40 for a set i think, but I'm not sure if they're only MTBs specific
Cheapest option for complete replacement would be a kit by clarks for ~£15-20 probably.
Most importantly, be sure to install the cable outers properly with a decent pair of wire cutters. I used a dremel. You need a clean edge. As explained by Sheldon http://sheldonbrown.com/cables.html

Likely so, if not, there's other bike shop that stock swrve, like Brixton Cycles, Bikefix, and Fitzrovia Cyclery come to mind.

Please could someone recommend me a decent brake cable kit to re-cable my avid cable disc setup? Needs to be fully enclosed, and please could someone also recommenced some decent snips to cut them with, as I want to make sure it's done right.
Or would I be better off just buying new lengths of housing, as what I'm wanting to do it remove the crosstops from my boardman cx?
Cheers.

Goodridge compressionless housing and Park Tools cable cutter.
If you want to be really precise, use a cutting disc on a dremel instead of the cutters- this will get an absolutely clean cut (with sparks).
Rode mine today and the braking is finally something that you just forget about and rely on.

yeah but you've got that thingymajiggy on the front as well.... would fitting one of them and just leaving the brake cables as they are not do the job?
-
• #19740
If you are going to remove the cross tops then you need new outers- no way round it as the break in the cable is in the wrong place to fit a Problem Solver.
The cables are currently two separate runs- lever to cross-top, cross-top to caliper.
If you are fitting a problem solver you need the break in the cable to be a lot closer to the caliper, so you may as well replace it with decent stuff whilst you are at it- you'll need bar tape as well, as the stuff that is on there does not unwrap, it comes off in chunks.
You can keep the inners, however I bought the Goodridge kit from Chainiggle, which came with all cable ends/ferrules/inners, so replaced the lot.

My HSBC gadget thing has always worked. What is this unsyncing you speak of? And why would you need to take it out of the house? The beauty of internet banking is that it's 24 hours, so it's ok to do it at 11pm and nobody judges you.

Mine has never worked, I dunno- maybe I got a duffer.
The beauty of Internet banking was that you could manage your account anywhere that had an Internet connection.

How about looking up the page 2 posts before yours?
I use a dremel hand drill with a disc cutting attatchment. A lot of people have them lying about, rather than trying to find a heavy duty set of wire cutters.
