The beauty of Internet banking was that you could manage your account anywhere that had an Internet connection.
Good point.
I think the problem was that anyone could do the same, on your account.

Meh. I thought an absurdly long internet banking number and a 8-12 digit passnumber was secure enough for me. But then again I don't have any money for anyone to steal, and I've got a mac so aren't likely to get a virus that records my keystrokes.

How about looking up the page 2 posts before yours?
I use a dremel hand drill with a disc cutting attatchment. A lot of people have them lying about, rather than trying to find a heavy duty set of wire cutters.
It was that post which reminded me I needed to inquire. I live in Leeds so although many of you lovely forum types may have a dremel handy that I could lend, it would be a bit of a trek for it... are there not a decent pair of wire cutters to be had for reasonable moneys?
Also wasn't sure whether there would be a cable set specifically designed with cable discs in mind.
Do excuse me.

Cable cutters are worth what they cost. Get a Park CN10, you'll have forgotten the £30 soon; cheap ones will just keep reminding you of the error of buying cheap tools.

My shimano cutters are 10yrs old. Certainly worth the money

for offroad stuff, i think the gore cables are pretty awesome
but as my lbs mechanic pointed out, for the same price you can keep buying shimano xt cables and replace them 2 or 3 times
-

What makes them so good?
-
• #19761
the gore? because they are sealed
-
• #19762
Are the cables that sealed? Doesn't that effect the drag of cables?
I've never used gore so have no idea.

Only Gore have the technology to make cable liners which are both waterproof and breathable.
If you want good cables, buy Transfil. Flying Snake for racing, Mudlovers for daily drivers.

First Direct FTW.
I know it is part of HSBC but I have literally nothing bad to say about FD.
£100 to transfer to them too.No keycard thing for iBanking (although they are thinking about it).
I have re-upped my overdraft at midnight the night before a big direct debit no probs.
Call centre staffed by humans who AIM TO PLEASE rather than AIM TO ANNOY THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF YOU.+1 they are pretty much the best bank I have ever been with
-
• #19765
how many banks have you been with?
-
• #19766
Ah- try the HSBC one, and you will know what we are talking about.
How many of them do you have?
I have one per account and both of them have always worked.
They're just fucking annoying to use.

I think there's a pattern forming here…
I wonder if Dammit has his own EMP field that kills electronics whenever he approaches?

Someone said those security cards, whilst making your banking more secure were mostly for reducing load on the bank's servers.. might've been someone on here.. anyone work in bank IT?

Does such a thing as a security chain tug exist or did I just invent a potential new theft deterrent?
am thinking of a chaintug that tightens with a unique tool (torx might even do) and prevents the rear wheel from being removed without having the tool to undo the tug to give enough slack on the chain or to break the chain itself.
not as secure as pitlocks granted but would make it bit harder to steal the rear wheel if you were locking front wheel/frame only.

My LBS has informed me that the gear and brake cables on my recently purchased (second hand) road bike are a bit squiffy and could do with replacement. I don't want to spend too much seeing as I've just splurged on a new bike, but can anyone recommend a bundle I can get online that will do the job? I need all the ferules etc too as those are a bit fucked too. Preferably not too ugly as the bike is quite nice...
try fibrax
first direct sort of invented the non branch based banking model and have always had non-token based banking with surprising simple security and I've never seen them get slagged.
Conversely, I pride myself on having assembled my own PCs and putting together an internally cabled crabon road bike but have never managed to get my Nationwide credit card online registration to work.
