I tell ya, I loved the 24hr. If you're already doing audax, you're most of the way there.
I don't do audax so I had to train up to the distances required for 24hr. T'was hard work but pretty cool to achieve what I did. I'm certainly not the fastest but cliche if you had've said I'd ride ~450mi in 24 hours 12 months ago I would've laugh my arse off.

There is but only a wee bit less. Like, I ate a steak tonight that would make up for it. :)

my memory is unflattering then. right, to bed. there is track to be tracked tomorrow/in 4 hours, plus I wrecked my legs on the way home and my liver before that. better than my usual fridays though (can't see the sun yet), so things are improving.

Well, its full but on the smith machine. Strange thing is ive just got up to 180 on the leg press.... More stable perhaps?
-
• #18967
or you're also lifting the weight of your head, arms and torso on one, but not on the other?

Of course its more stable, a leg press negates any balance aspect at all and only requires minimal involvement of the back.
Leg presses are more useful than smith machines in my opinion. You can really stress legs hard, which can work well as a supplementary exercise for a free squat (the bread and butter!).
Smith machines neither have the overload ability of a leg press nor the balance aspect of a free squat. They basically just suck, only useful for doing pull ups on.

We talking about the same machine here- allows you to move a bar (with weights on) horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally if that makes sense?
i.e. if I am doing a bench press I cannot drop one side of the bar, but I can drop the whole thing and crush my thorax?

i.e. one of these:

crush my thorax?
Come surprisingly close to that everytime I overload on't bench press... (fuck you detatched collarbone!)
