When you are running 120psi is there an argument for ditching punctured innertubes? I just had one blow on me.
Only if your puncture repair skills are lacking or the hole is too big to be repaired.

Yes, where is BMMF?

I haven't seen that particular documentary but 99% of ones fail at the science of nuclear power and nuclear waste. What you've written about it is the equivalent of a Daily Mail story on immigrants.
I studied nuclear power and worked on a live plant for six years. I still have a lot of friends working in various fields connected to that industry. It's one of those frustrating subjects that has me roll my eyes whenever it comes up. Most people do not know of what they speak.
well if you'd watched the documentary then you'd see that all the information in it comes from interviews - it's in finland mostly, and the people interviewed are the ones who are designing the nuclear waste stores, heads of government nuclear energy departments etc. so basically people like you except who know more ;)
no offence intended, i dont know enough myself to judge the science but they seem like they probably would. they have at least gone to a lot of effort to make the film scientifically accurate.

I got a pair of these recently
http://www.goldring.co.uk/headphones/ns1000.htm
They were £60 of Play.com. I haven't much to compare them to, other than a couple of other sets I listened to. I've been hugely impressed. Good sound definition, noise cancelling, comfortable, comes with a good case and lead. There are also some Audio Tecnicas at around £100 that also get good write-ups. I tended to rely on What Hi-Fi reviews.
If I hadn't wanted noise-cancelling I'd have gone with a pair of Grado SR80.
Cool, I'll have a look at these as well, cheers!

A question about headphones:
I have approx. £100 to spend on a pair of headphones, not earphones, I've been looking at some Bose over or on the ear versions (89.99 and about 129.99 respectively) does anyone have any brands/models they would recommended from experience? I want some that are good at stopping noise leakage so as not to be "that" person on the bus/train/tube.
Cheers for any help!
well i've had the bose on-ear ones for 5 years or so and they are absolutely awesome. comfort, build quality and sound quality are all top-drawer. some audiophile types are snobby about bose cos they dont publish detailed frequency response graphs blah blah. ignore them, go try the headphones out in a shop and see if you like them. they're pretty good at stopping noise leakage too (they are closed-back design, most like this will be fine at stopping noise leakage)

I'm strictly Sennheiser. On at least my third pair. Been through all the brands, they're the best.

Well never had a problem before, 23 plus years of fixing my own punctures.
This however is a specialized tube that came with the bike. It has had 3 punctures and blew while I was re-aligning the real wheel in the frame.
That's what they all say. That and Specialized tubes are no good.
Where did it blow? Probably pinched under the tyre.

The noise cancellation on the Bose is nice though. They should supply them on long haul flights.

I haven't had to get any for 10 years. I paid £100 back then. I thought maybe add £20 quid on. Looks like I should have added £40, though it is worth trying down Tottenham Court Road and haggling. Most are quite flexible on price down there.
Good point. I've only really seen mobiles and laptops in those places but someone might have 'phones.

Split along the seem. Never pinched a tube yet.
You're not trying hard enough. I've pinched a few tubes in my days.
And if you've never done it, how do you know it wasn't pinched? :) -
• #18865
I have a feeling all these Specialized tube failures are simply pinched tubes and the seam is on the side.

No.
Figures.

No offence intended from me either. I have no doubt they were intelligent sciency/engineery types but even those kinds can have agendas. And documentary filmmakers invariably do.

My first born is due on Halloween. He'll be the real litmus test. So far the scans show his tail is coming along nicely.

Loads do headphones, just not in the window displays.
Do your price research online, know the models you are interested in, and then try and screw one of the shops to sell it to you for £10 less than online for cash. Don't worry about pissing off one of the shop owners, there's about 50 shops on the strip who all want your business.
Don't believe any of the bullshit like "These are even better, just nobody's heard of them yet as they aren't sold in the UK".

I'll be off to Tottenham Court road with my cash then, never thought of that for headphones, got a good deal on a dslr a few years back so I'm up for a haggle!

I'd bear John Lewis in mind. Pair of my Sennheiser's stopped playing out of one channel, took them back, they had a listen and gave me a straight swap there and then. Didn't even ask about me mistreating them, which I hadn't anyway. Can't quibble with that.

Also +100 on the Sennheisers. And it can be worth paying a little extra to get after sales service. Or, at the other extreme, one could try to source them direct and unbranded through eBay from the factory that makes them, à la carbon frames and wheels....
My HD414s are 2.5 decades (approx) old and still sound as good as new, only replaced the foams about every decade.

Was it really impressively loud when it blew? Because in that case, tyre mounting tube pinch fail.
I did that a few days after 9/11. My neighbours thought it was an Al Quaeda mortar attack.

I swear by these. Run 2 pairs, only had a single puncture in a very long time on either.
The only tyres I punctured every time I ventured outside my house.

east london vs west london roads :)

Actually our roads are supreme right now due to the olympic refurbishment.
Only those bloody construction sites and Hoxton's gutters full of smashed Corona bottles...
No.
