    What geo did you go for?

  • angles are both 74, ett 575,
    don't think they can get 65 trail with 0 rake, bikeCAD doesn't want to do it with 75 headtube angle, comes out 90ish with mega toe overlap

  • Nope, 26". Re-measured everything, rake is actually 45mm so the trail is 70.

    Been practicing my welding recently, not too far from being happy to change the dropouts. Been working away on the computer trying to get it to where I want it. Ended up with a 74deg HT, 45 rake and a 50mm trail. Do I want more trail?

    Are you chopping the marked bits of the stays like the original plan?

  • Depends, I may put in stays from a different frame.

  • It's an old Townsend mtb, Reynolds 501 tubes. BB is at 295mm, I'm running 1.5" tyres front and rear. Anyone is welcome a go. A pity you weren't down for the Bristol tourney, I quite enjoyed looking at all the different bikes seeing everyone's different approaches to getting a good bike.

  • Hi guys, I am sure what I am about to ask somthing that has been discussed many times in the past, so please forgive me. What are the pros and cons for using a BMX crankset in comparison to a normal crank? Or is it more like a personal preference?

  • Stronger. I'd broken a couple of cranksets before getting Profiles. They have their own ball-aches attached, though (BBs, Q-factor).

  • You can fit a sub-30T ring to BMX cranks, so your sprockets are easier to find, although an extra sprocket tooth makes more difference with smaller rings.

  • BMX cranks are a false economy in my opinion (people thinking they need "super strong" and shelling out it for it). Trials cranks are lighter and are easily strong enough for polo.

    I'll be running Middlebrun RS7s on the next bike, they come with a lifetime warranty (Middleburn replace broken cranks with new ones no question) have a myriad of chainring options (the UNO rings are good quality and come in 32/34t), they weigh 515g (arms, lockring and chainring), they often come up second hand for ~£50 (warranty still stands).

    Profiles are marginally stronger, true, but they're also 50% heavier, take the skin off your ankles and rust after a season.

  • yes jon, I want some middleburn ex-type cranks, but they are rare as hen's teeth on ebay (too new)
