Unless it cripples your 4 like they did with the 3G
Indeed.

Poor guy. He was younger than my dad.
Thoughts to his wife and kids. He wasn't well by the end, I imagine the last few years have been very tough for him.
He did a lot of great things for Apple over the past 14 years or so, chief among which was attracting the right sort of people to work for him; to design and develop the software/hardware, to run the operations, marketing etc.
I don't think he is/was as integral to apple's continuing success as people think, and that will probably turn out to be his greatest achievement.

Indeed.
if iOS 5 did render the 3GS or 4 as useless as 4 rendered the 3G, then I seriously doubt apple would continue to sell those 2 models.
I know a few people running the developer version of iOS 5 on a 3GS with no problems.

Good to hear, but I'm sure they were still selling the 3G after they made it slooooow.

I guess its okay to get back on topic sometime now like?
What do people actually think of the new-ish iPhone 4S? A revelation (Siri), or a disappointment?
What I find interesting is that Siri makes these phones all the easier to target by thieves. Listening to someone talking to their phone, and the Siri voice answers, will let thieves know exactly what model the person is carrying.
really? if you're holding your phone out like that and some little oik is thjinking about nicking it, he's not going to stop cause it's only a 4 or heaven forbid.. 3gs. If it available in his eyes its free surely?

I'm afraid you're just feeding the troll on this one. Ashe is absolutely desperate to find anything and everything bad with Apple products.

Siri looks pretty cool, but voice commands have never caught on before. Maybe the apple army is needed to make it cool to talk to your phone.
Take me to your nuclear vessels.

Completely correct, much like video calling never caught on then they brought out facetime - which I'm still confused about why it doesn't work over 3g. I'd like to see some stats about how many people use facetime actually.

ha caught, I suspect I'll be getting one fairly shortly as it happens, it's a good step up from the 3ds I have now, the camera will be great
Has there been any mention of the aerial issue from 4 being addressed?

Video calling mobile to mobile is still very niche. Arranged calls a la Skype are the vanguard here.

They said the 4s switches between antennae intelligently, or something... is that not a fix? or was that just for world crap?

sounds like a fix.. I hadn't read that bit. Tried to wrangle a discount through academia... it's not happening though...

apparently dual arial runs through both processors so that 3g data can be downloaded faster, like cellular line bonding i suppose?

^^ If that's true I'm impressed.

i'm pondering getting on a contract, though i'm reluctant as i've managed to be without one for quite some time and it saves me loads of money. Quickly compared Three and o2 for iPhone 4, seems like Three is a lot cheaper, are they any good?
Three
24 months
£69 upfront
£35 / month
2000 any network minutes
5000 texts
5000 Three-to-Three minutes
All-you-can-eat Datao2
24 months
£202.99 upfront
£36.00 / month
300 minutes
unlimited texts
1gb data(don't care about minutes as I never use more than 100 a month anyway)

£200 for a phone on a £35 pm contract for two years? Fuck off. Same tarrif on no phone rolling contract would be about £15 pm, take the £20 saving over 24 months that's £480' plus the £200 up front. How much os the phone sim free?
Also can only say 3 were shit when I was with them (about 9 years ago ) heard they are better now, but couldn't say myself.

Handset alone £500 from apple. Save about 200 quid by paying up front. Especially if you don't use many minutes

my t-mobile plan is about £12 a month. think it's 600min but i never use them all.
use the data a fair bit but have never had a warning about over-use (fair usage policy).i'm never getting a contract phone again. i do get an apple discount and the vat off so the iphone wasn't that expensive. also sold my 3 for £150 so it was a no brainer to buy a 4 when my £35/month contract was up.
