  • I've done similar, if you put some tape over the slot the lock tab has left the card should still work.
I think some kind of sprung lever in the camera get pushed back by the tab being in place to allow the camera to write to the card. (not very well explained)

  • skint. :-s
it's not serious so don't want to go all out. I'm happy to experiment with lighting solutions.

Could also do with some faux fog somehow...

you need some 5k's maybe a 10 a windbag some scrims a mobile genset a gaffer and half a dozen sparks.

big fan of his work, i like the aesthetics and appreciate the craft behind them as i understand how to light and the scale of the production involved in creating work like that.

  • I think I'd be a bit frightened of putting tape over the gap incase it came off inside the camera... may if it's replacement doesn't turn up quickly.

    Cheers for the tip!

All with a Voigtländer 40mm/f1.4. And mostly at f1.4 as it was fricking dark and I have no flash.

  • Managed to snap the little lock tab on my SD card. Thinking it wouldn't matter, popped it back in the x100.

Apparently, the little tab makes it writable, so the card is fucked without it. Somehow, the plastic above the tab also splintered off, and made the card completely stuck in the camera.

    Fucking shit frightening.

Finally got it out, with what looks like no damage to the camera. Who made those little tabs so flimsy!?

I was having a "discussion" with a fauxtographer about him saying SD cards are the best, and CF are rubbish. It didn't last long, he was an idiot.

  • fucking jesspos are refusing to replace it, even though they said they would over the phone!!

    dicks.

  • Question regarding carrying camera kit whilst backpacking. What would you recommend for carrying the camera so I can take pictures as I'm walking? I'll probably put the camera bag (with an extra lens, battery and flash) in my rucksack.

This will be if I'm backpacking with my 5D. Otherwise with the DP1 I can fit it in my pockets relatively easy.

wow, awesome. gotta check that out next time i'm in berlin

  • finally got round to buying a Ricoh GRD3 last weekend. So nice to have a good compact again

Eh.. bending one of the 50 tiny pins deep inside the slot might change your mind. Horses for courses though. If you shooting 30 mp raw files, performance becomes a bigger factor.

  • Love this little camera. I find myself walking to work pre focusing the camera setting it to about 800-1600 iso and letting it work It's magic.

Also I've found with the Sigma Pro software you can apply settings to batches of photos so It's almost like your shooting film and it takes all the hassle out of processing digital images which I can't always be arsed with.

  • Got a call from jessops manager, after a rather ranty email to their customer services the other day, saying they're happy to replace the memory card.

    Good craic.

She kept wanting me to dob in who was a twat to me, but I didn't know who it was, and felt pretty uncomfortable about doing it anyway.

Also got offered a load of free prints when I come back off my hols too. Pretty nice.

    Cheers Jessops.

  • some rumour is said that the GR-D IV is to be announced on September the 15th, which mean the already excellent GR-D III will be even cheaper, perhaps go for the III if you liked your Ricoh very much?

I mean, it does exactly what you want it to do, the new one will have a faster lens so you can take low light shot easily (something I quite like doing on the GR II).

GRD4 just came out. not too much changed from III (which is good since I bought a GRD3 2 weeks ago)

  • so. should i sell my 5DMk1 with 28mm f1.8 + 50mm f1.4 and get a GF1 with some m-mount lenses? (with the potential of a bessa further down the line)

I literally never bring my 5d out with me which is such a shame, i love it when I do but just never get round to it, it's just too bulky. Better to bring a lesser camera than no camera, right?

  • there's one for sale in the classifieds :-)

i guess it depends on if you want portability or full frame as the mpixel size is the same and there probably isn't much in it noise wise.
would be a bit different if you had the MK2 with stellar lenses (that's what i have) then a smaller camera is purely about portability.
for me i have to have the file size and quality (plus versatility of multiple lens options) of the 35mm camera (and even then i still stitch to get an even bigger file) so a micro 4/3 camera is about having something portable and just taking pictures than shooting tethered and pixel-peeping to ensure perfect client friendly files.

in short buy it and be freed from shoulder/arm ache.

  • That's what i'm thinking as well, technically it'll give me roughly equivalent files so not much to think about really...

Was really keen on a mk2 but it'd have the same issues.

(really tired of always pondering camera setup. I wish it was as with bikes, get a steamroller and a pacer and be done with it)

  • if you don't need 60meg tiffs then a mk11 is pointless. as a 7d is cheaper/smaller and has live-view.

  • you did see the one for sale on here?

  • yeah... hence this conversation :)

I'm thinking very similar thoughts right now.
At the end of last year I went from a D3 with 24-70 f.28 and 80-200mm f2.8 to a 5D1, 1D2, 17-40 f4 and 70-200 f4 because I was doing some press work and wanted two cameras. I'm doing less press stuff now and hardly use this kit. 5D probably hasn't been out the cupboard for a month, the 1D, 2 or 3 months. They just don't suit my style of shooting anymore.

I have a NEX3 which I recently got an adapter for to use my Konica primes with, really like this setup and thinking now that I might get rid of the DSLR kit, upgrade to a NEX5 and get a Contax G for film needs. I'd probably get an adaptor to use the Contax lenses on the NEX too.

Only thing stopping me is that I will probably still do some press stuff, the odd corporate job and some 2nd shooter stuff for a wedding company and would really need an SLR for that. When I say need I mean from a clients point of view, I'd happily shoot all that stuff on either film or my NEX.

  • I just sold my 60D and bought a GF2 instead. Its ace for portability, more than good enough quality for 90% of shots even with the stock 14 and 14-42 lenses. Not got the moneys at the moment to get into the old lenses and adaptors scene just yet but definitely will as soon as i can.

If you had a mk2 then you would definitely see the drop in quality but compared to a mk1 then i think it is a very good option.

I would keep the lenses though unless you really need the money as you would regret having to buy them again if you ever go back to a DSLR.
