  • but the z3 vert was the typical gay hairdressers car.......

    So we agree?

  • Ouch.. http://my750.com/

Maybe I dodged a dog there

  • Isn't there a thread that needs merging?

2002 was an amzing car for its time and the blocks were so amazing they were used in formula one cars.

You keep saying this, and it's still not true- they used the stock blocks initially and they kept splitting them.

The ones that "if they made a lap made 1,400 horsepower" had the casting adapted to reinforce it.

hahaha good times, Stick to the 3 and 5 series.

    Really

  • Yes, really. Have a bit of a read about it- the blocks were sand-cast, the then head of BMW motorsport famously used a walking stick to remove sand from key areas where the block was splitting.

    Really, this gets better.

    Anything else?

  • I don't know- what else do you pretend to know about but get wrong routinely that you would like me to help you with?

  • Could be a long list.

    1. Bikes
    2. Cars
    3. Scones
    4. ??
  • PS see post about low emissions zone. I included a link to a pretty coloured map to help.

PS Who won the 1983 formula 1 championship?

  • What car won the 1983 Formula 1 championship?

  • What engine was in the 1983 formula one championship?

  • PS see post about low emissions zone. I included a link to a pretty coloured map to help.

    No, you didn't.

    1. Bikes
    2. Cars
    3. History of the BMW M10/12 engine
    4. Pasting links into posts
  • Popcorn.

  • No, you didn't.

True but the link is there now.

Come on I awaiting a reply?

PS google BMW m10/BMW m12 as thats the engine.

    Nelson Piquet
    Brabham

The blocks were destressed as they came from 100,000 km cars, then got pee'd whilst outside rusting pre machining.

The engine was used to success in F2, and world touring car but I don't know as much about that.

  • Heh, is it an imaginary person to go with the imaginary car?

Simply repeating yourself won't make you correct you know.

I'll see if I can dig out the copy of the magazine that has the article- as far as I know it's not available online, so you'd probably not have seen it.

  • Here is a quote from the article (all I can locate online at the moment):

"The 318i block we used to use was absolutely standard up to 1100bhp. But if we took the wastegate off, that was really hanging the engine out. If it made a lap, it made 1300 horsepower.
But we often broke an engine in half lengthways."
-Article on Paul Rosche's turbocharged BMW F1 engine

The reinforcement was needed to stop the block splitting.

You are correct in that they used teh 100,000 km engines as development and early test units, but as the quote says, they didn't last and the casting had to be changed.

  • A Volvo or Porsche is never far away in this thread:

The neighbours would love me parking that thing out the front of the flat!

They'd like me leaving even more.. bye bye tyres..
