  • from my clerkenwell lair it's looking a little breezy out there. nice blue skies and evening sun though. I shall optimistically be leaving the mudguard in the office.

  • Provisionally still in, but not getting away for a while :-/

  • Boooo! Get on it! Heading out in a min, see y'all at York Gate innit.

  • Oi, you lot. Help me out, quick! 4 mins left!

Too late. Went for £100 :(

  • Considering a few laps Butters?

  • Thinking about heading out for laps now. Meet at York Gate (inner circle) at half seven if anyone else is keen!)

  • I showed up about 7, and straight away thought I saw you lot a couple of hundred metres ahead. Busted my balls for three solo laps trying to catch up, and almost managed it only to be defeated by the headwind. Losing the beard clearly didn't have the aero benefit I'd hoped for.

Where do you finish these days? I had a quick roll round the inner circle just after 7.30 but managed to miss everyone. Considered doing another 30 mins but thought better of it and headed home for a cold beer.

  • 100 metres of joining the group......huge p*&%^ture
Managed to rupture the sidewall of my front Contis, tried to boot it with spare tube i keep but could only inflate to about 60 psi
    Me out.

  • it was good to see some of you.

  • Considering a few laps Butters?

Done and it was good! Just about managed to keep up with Tom and the rest, although there were a few times that the lights saved me.

  • Good effort! If I'd known you were out I might've made more effort to catch up (or stopped and waited for you to come around again).

Bit worried about Tom, why was he so slow?

  • 23.7mph average. pretty consistent laps, all around 7:04. reasonable enough :) felt a lot more comfortable than usual too. lots of rather pleasant people out, with a surprise scarletting for good measure.
(6:35 / 25mph avg on the last lap too, when I was worn out, which is reasonable)

  • ^Suddenly don't feel so bad about being dropped. Good to see you OSR, Butters and 6pt and sorry for not hanging in longer. After losing the group it turned into a TT for which I was not mentally prepared. Will have to work harder next time.

  • I just wanted to check that I'd sorted the squeaky Brooks, and fixed my new copper bell at an angle that was comfortably dingable whilst not interfering with the fold; and that the new brake levers were working okay, and the Koolstop dual compounds worked okay on the front [/no more fucking mods]

Baggy clothes, 74" gear, 16" wheels, 32mm tyres, widish bars, mudguards (with flaps), and an upright position are still not the best thing for sustaining 26mph for any length of time; but it's a nice challenge trying to keep things stable at that speed/cadence :D

I love my bell, but I'm not Anita Ward, so don't fucking touch it.

  • the aero-barred hanger-on had his poor little mind blown by you and your brompton whizzing. always good to drag you into the mix :)

  • I was trying to gauge my perceived exertion today in comparison to riding 79" fixed on the Burls. It felt like 20mph Brompton = 24mph Burls, and 25mph Brompton = 30mph Burls.

Not a straight cadence/gear/speed comparison i.e. it's easier to maintain power at higher cadences on the Burls (with it's new fangled 700c wheels, 165mm cranks, and dropular bars). Who'd have thought it :/

  • Bit worried about Tom, why was he so slow?

Didn't seem that slow to me - next time...

  • FRICK!!! i had to escourt my friend back home and missed the damn thing, will it be back next week?

  • Nice bell, I used to have on of them, they make a lovely sound. Though I've now opted for a cheapie bell I picked up in Amsterdam as you can modulate the amount of ring very easily making it possible to give a gentle dingle or a big fuck off out of my way ring. I found the copper bell only does the latter.

  • That's because you lack modulatory finesse. Hate to break it to you on a Friday morning :(

  • Ringers gonna ring...

  • goes away to practice gentle bell ringing
