You should be able to save quite a bit by purchasing in the states. Only issue is if customs get you for import tax at the airport... also beware of state tax which wont be quoted on the Apple US site.

• #2082
^ I'm with Spenceey... you don't need the extra 0.1Ghz on the i7 and then upgrade the HDD and Ram yourself...
2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (British) & User's Guide (English)
AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro - Auto-enroll£2,061.60 incl. VAT
Hmm, so tempting... It's a little complicated tho' as I have to buy it through my company, I'll speak to my accountant...

They sell the lead in the Apple shop, about £16, not sure which one, it's all a bit confusing.

oK, Mac heads........
My MacBook Air has a problem. Its working fine when its plugged into the mains, but at the top right hand of the screen, it says "Not Charging" and the battery charge is 0%. Won't work without the mains lead.
I assume this means the battery is dead, and it needs a replacement.
Or is that too obvious ? Is it an Apple trick ?

sounds like the battery is gone yeah

I was told today by the IT guy at my regular gig that there's a rash of viruses aimed directly at the MacBook's battery... Apparently there's a chip in there that's really easy to hack, anyone else heard about this?
-
• #2091
How old is it and how many times has the battery been charged/cycled?
Its 18 moths old, and is used pretty much everyday. So plenty of cycles.

At the moment, it's only a security company looking for publicity by releasing info on the vulnerability and then offering to publish a fix... not sure there are actually any viruses or malware that make use of this.

TS keep an eye on the used and recinditioned section of the mac store website for what you need. Sometimes takes a few weeks to find what you want but everything comes with 1 yes apple care and TBH they are normally as good as new but 15-20% cheaper than the store.

yep. the guy found an exploit, and aims to get it sorted. I don't think there's viruses about doing it though.
