What version of Windows, you'll need to format it in NTFS.

XP.
Yes, I understand that I'll need to reformat it, buts its unclear how to do that if the operating system won't recongise it?

Control Panel/Admin Tools/computer management/disk management.
It should show up in there, if it doesn't it may well be fucked.

Thanks Ronnie. Looks good, as its showing up in there. How do I format it?
-
• #2107
Try some right clicking and look at the options.
-
• #2108
Its calling itself a partition - do I need to just 'delete' the partition, as this seems the only option available. The rest are greyed out
-
• #2109
Right deleted it then got worried, as all options disapeared, but now it seems possible to create a new partition, for the whole of the 500gig disk, but NTFS. Coolio

hmmm, now reformatted, still showing in disk management, but still not coming up on the computer for use....

i have a old macbook 10.4.11
whats the cheapest way to make this run faster? my siter just usuaes it for skyping and interwebbing but it crashes and takes ages to do anything.

Max out the RAM and delete extraneous shit (and do a bit of disk utility reparation, for what it's worth).
-
• #2116
what comes under extraneous?

Is it an Intel C2D or Intel CD model? If the former upgrade to Leopard (10.5).
Wiping the drive and starting from scratch always helps.
Max the RAM (2 x 1gb sticks) and buy an SSD if you want things to be much nippier.

any applications you don't use / don't plan on using. (garage band, imovie, idvd etc). get rid of things that run on start up unless you need them.

And use a flash blocker on your web browser (you can selectively override/whitelist stuff).

(I'm using a 2006 1.8Ghz Macbook (C2D), 60gb HD (only half full), 2 Gb RAM, 10.4.11 - everything runs as well as it did when I bought it)

run applejack. this will probably help speed it up a bit.

Back up what you want to keep then wipe it and reinstall with snow leopard. A macbook of that age should still be fine parts wise but is probably just clogged up with useless information. Also many modern versions of programs such as safari and Skype are not designed to be used with older OS so that should improve performance.

will wipe it once sis is up :)

Dont wipe it until you have something to reinstall though!
What? no mentioned of Apple dropping the MacBook from their list?
