you can do it through a proxy/vpn. but I think most require you to pay a small monthly charge.
here's an example of one... http://www.giganews.com/vyprvpn/
has a 14-day trial which might suit. can't claim personal experience of their service though (although they are a well known usenet provider, if not the biggest).

Hi, little electrical question:
Here is how I plan to wire my kitchen... based on what I suppose to be correct?
Could someone competent comment / let me know if that's kind of allright / acceptable / safe / "Legal"
Thanks a lot!
Also what amperage should be the fuse in the consumer unit, this is? 20A? And what wire mm2 should I use for the ring?

The sockets needs to be on the ring, not on an unfused spur. Normal ring mains use 30/32A fuses and 4mm² cable.
Disclaimer: I haven't been paid for this kind of advice since the 15th Edition of the IEE regulations, and I think it's pretty much prohibited for an unqualified electrician to carry out this kind of work these days even in their own home.

Quick Highway Code query. I wasn't able to find the answer elsewhere.
Obviously cyclists in London use the bus lanes pretty extensively. I just wanted to know what the law is on cycles turning right (for instance) on a junction that's 'no right turn except for buses'.
The instruction implies that only buses may do so (but by the same logic only buses may use bus lanes... so...)

I've used the search function but can't find it. There was a post from Hippy (I think) talking about how you can make your browser 'trick' websites into thinking you are in the UK. I'm in France at the mo and want to watch somethin on iPlayer but it's geo restricted. Anyone know how to do this or better yet know where the bloody post is?

While there, can I use a similar VPN to pay online?
I failed to pay bills online when abroad, because Visa verification page seems to be also UK specific. -

If the sign does not permit bicycles, bicycles are prohibited - You may note that bus lanes specifically permit bicycles.
I noticed that the bus lane on the A13 next to Cycle Superhighway CS3 no longer permits cycles, just taxis and motorcycles with the buses. I assume cyclists are forbidden because they are expected to use the superhighway, so now of you don't wish to roll with the CS3 nodders you're riding with the cars on the A13.
That'll make the drivers happy -

I'm only preparing the works actually, as I want to close walls / cladding now, but ultimately an electrician will come as I need a new consumer unit anyway.

Doubt it's an oversight somehow tiswas. i belive that there is an expectation that where there is a superhighway you gotta use it. On the day of the launch of CS7, riding to clapham common for that, I was pulled over by a motorbike cop for filtering right of the traffic jam not on the superhighway. They want to improve traffic flow as a major TfL priority (see blackfriars and elephant debacle)

Thanks for this. Very helpful.
While I'm at it I might as well see if you guys have the answer to this one:
At a junction, are cars, buses and (particularly) motorcycles permitted to stop in the designated 'cycle' area? I ask because I'm so often forced onto the pedestrian crossing by this behaviour that I've started to suspect the cycles areas might only be an advisory measure, rather than law.

^though on most occasions, especially with motorcycles they are entering the stop box from the right when the lights are red which is technically ilegal
-
• #14738
Ok, cool. So, typically speaking, this sort of thing isn't illegal? (Not my photo.)
-
• #14739
Unless the bus if pedal powered no. Or if the bus was there before the light change.
-
• #14740
If that bus rolled onto the cycle box when the lights are red it is not legal
-
• #14741
There's a difference between a motorist being caught in the ASL box by a lights change (in a thick slow moving traffic) and moped, motorbikes and other cunts who drive up right to zebra crossing only because there's a space. Those should be rounded up and slapped with a herring.

• #14742
and even if a cyclists enters the stop box without using the feeder lane to the left that too is technically illegal (though unlikely to be prosecuted)

What is a normal/assumed notice period for leaving a job - is it 1 month per year worked?
Does this vary if it's part-time? -
• #14750
Tell your boss to fuck off - instant dismissal. No notice period. Voila.
