do most people just have cellphones in london?

I don't get how/why you have to pay to call people from a house phone/landline if you're paying to have the phone line.

the oddest shit gets you when moving overseas...

landline is just so you can get the internet, overseas calls are done using skype.
ringer is turned off and just clear the junk calls of the answerphone every couple of days.

you can get free calls to other landlines after a certain time i think. we havent replaced our home phone so we just use the landline for internet :/

You can get PAYG micro-Sim with 3GB on Orange in Poland, so I presume you can buy a similar in France. You just have to ask in French.

We get free calls after 6 during the week and all weekend are free. The main reason for a land line is just for the internet.
In our house we tend to use our mobiles or skype anyway.

Depends on your package - for £9/mo on top of the line rental, I get all day everyday free calls to UK, EU, USA, Aus, NZ etc and broadband
